True Grit

For as long as I can remember the Montreal Canadiens could never beat the Boston Bruins in a fight. This is a big concern to many a Habs fan, but it really shouldn't be. When the Habs beat the Bruins Wednesday night it was not because they intimidated them. No, instead the real reason they won was because they took every hit the Bruins dished out, and they got up and kept on playing their game. That's a kind of toughness that cannot be taught. Never did Montreal get away from their game. If you want real toughness look no farther than Brandon Prust going toe-to-toe with bigger and stronger Milan Lucic, and if that's not enough for you how about Alexi Emelin answering the call of Chara despite being at least seven inches shorter and having metal plates in his face. So I'm fine with all the commentators claiming that the Bruins are the biggest and baddest team in hockey. Just look at the kind of guys they have on that bench. Chara, Lucic, Thornton, McQuaid are all some tough customers. However, there is no reason Habs fans should be clamoring to get guys that can beat the snot out of some of Boston's heavyweights. If you are not satisfied with seeing Brendan Gallagher and David Desharnais get repeatedly knocked down, but keep going to the front of the net like wild animals then you're not a real fan. That's true grit right there. You can bully people all you want, but when the tough get's going thats when the tough get going. Montreal don't have enforcers, but they have a number of guys that are tough. From pint sized captain Brian Gionta and rookie pest Brendan Gallagher to hard-nosed Alexi Emelin and shot-blocking Josh Gorges this team will take a punch, get right back up, and leave the knockout punch up to the scoreboard. Also we need to stop calling Boston the toughest team around when they have Brad Marchand running his mouth from behind linesman. I would take him on my team any day as a hockey player, but the guy is such a disgrace. Shut your mouth, and play the game the right way.
