Kadri on Cloud 9

Recent reports have indicated that Nazim Kadri is currently seeking a "John Tavares" type contract from the Toronto Maple Leafs which would be 6 years and 5.5 Million dollars.... In my opinion Kadri is not in the same stratosphere as Tavares who has played around 200 more games and recorded around 200 more points in that period.

Kadri reflects a contract much closer to the one Matt Duchene which was an average annual salary of $3.5 Million but even that amount at this time makes me take a second to think about (Duchene did have an all-star appearance).... Kadri has never played a full year in the NHL, (Even though the lockout is attributing to that) his production fell off at the tail end of last year and I don't think we know who the real Kadri is yet due to the fact that he has not had enough time in the league. The sophomore curse has affected its fair share of NHL youngsters.... I believe the ideal scenario is for the Leafs to get him on a bridge contract in the 2.5 Million dollar range but with the league landscapes changing it makes that number very tough to do.

Basically Nazim Kadri has played one full year in the NHL produced at a good pace and now expects to be compensated like a super star.... I really hope this is more of a leveraging move because if not I don't see Kadri suiting up for the blue and white next year.

If I was continuously told I was good enough then when finally given a shot do what he did I would hold out to. In his mind he likely believes had he been given the opportunity he could of had numbers similar to this for the past 2-3 seasons. The Leafs just never gave him a good chance to prove that he is worth the money he is asking.

Its a shame we dont get paid for how we perceive ourselves. Kadri should just shut up and sign his bridge deal. Shoot for a 2 year deal around 2.5 to 3 mill per year. Earn the big money.

If Kadri wants anything close to 5.5M then he should prove it first. Sign a 1 year $2.5M contract, have a break out season then sign for 5.5M per year. Otherwise if he wants a long term deal then ask for 8 years at $4M per year and front load the contract to the max. It is calculated like this:Total Salary = X 0.7X (Y-2)(0.5X)X = max salary in a single seasonY = number of years on the deal for 8 years @ $4M cap hit:X = ?, Y = 8, Total Salary = 3232 = X 0.7X (8-2)(0.5X)4.7X = 32X = $6.8085MSo sign a deal for:$6.8M $4.8M $3.4M (x6)Gets paid really hard up front. Doubt he wants to make 3.4 for 6 years so we likely have to give him a $4.5M cap hit but at least it is something to offer.
