Since this is HockeyBuzz it would be only suiting for me to talk about hockey in some way, shape, or form. So with that being brought to light I would like to share my thoughts on the NHL expansion and some NHL franchises in the picture at the moment.
First off, can we all agree that it would be a wise move for the NHL to actually execute this plan of expansion? To some (meaning the owners) they speculate that the NHL is already at an even playing field with all 30 teams being equally competitive amongst one another. So the idea of expanding would dictate that there would be an expansion draft, and no franchise wants to give up draft picks for nothing.
But even with those beliefs it still doesn't justify the fact that the brand NHL is extremely sub par to the rest of the four major pro sports leagues. By expanding you not only fix the uneven number of teams per conference, but you also gain tremendous revenue from these markets itching to receive not just an NHL franchise, but any sport franchise.
Cities like Seattle, Quebec City, Las Vegas all have extreme potential to be big money markets. Which in theory would expose our game to more people nation wide. This would eventually lead to more and more kids playing hockey at , and ultimately that should be the big picture for this game. Being able to secure the games future should be the only mindset of the people running it.
Two franchises that need to get out of dodge (in my opinion) are the Arizona Coyotes and the Florida Panthers. Yes , wow, shocker. But seriously, these franchises are just bringing the NHL down. The NHL seriously needs to consider moving these teams to different cities, it's not fair that these cities have all the resources and some to have a NHL team while already existing ones can barely keep their heads above water.
Thank you for reading, I'll be posting my first Blackhawks pre game preview tomorrow against New Jersey. Until then
