24. Columbus Blue Jackets – Samu Tuomaala RW (Karpat, SM Liiga JR) GM Jarmo kekalainen loves European players, even if it means drafting players way above scout projections like yegor Chinakov last year. Tuomaala is a right shot sniper with good skating ability. Compliments the Eklund pick at five.

25. Minnesota Wild – Logan Stankoven C/W (Kamloops, WHL)
surprisingly Stankoven made it to 25th. After a 48-point season last year Stankoven followed it up with 10 in 6 games this year. His small stature may make some teams leery, but he has got a lot of skill and we have seen what smaller players can do.

26. Carolina Hurricanes – Sasha Pastujov LW (USNTDP, USHL) Following their Owner’s wishes the Hurricanes go with a forward. The Canes take USNTDP product Sasha Pastujov. Hockey Prospecting has compared Pastujov to Matt Boldy due to his point output and potential for a big draft + 1 year. Pastujov had 65 points in 41 games this season.

27. Colorado Avalanche – Brennan Othmann LW (Olten, Sui) Othmann is a ferocious forechecker with good puck skills. Playing in the Swiss second league he put up 16 points in 34 games. With the potential for some players to move on via free agency in the next few years the Avs select someone who may be a suitable top six replacement.

28. New Jersey Devils - Zachary Bolduc C (Rimouski, QMJHL) Hampered by injuries Bolduc still produced 29 points in 27 games in the Q. A gifted stickhandler who can really shoot Bolduc makes for the perfect late first round pick. Why not take the risk if you are rebuilding like the Devs?

29. Vegas Golden Knights –Xavier Bourgault C (Shawinigan, QMJHL) Vegas get’s a good middle six center in Bourgault. A big time point producer in the Q Bourgault can also be effective in the defensive zone.

30. Montreal Canadiens – Stanislav Svozil LHD (Hc Kometa Brno, Czech) With Shea Weber and Jeff Petry getting older the Canadiens select Svozil, who played great at the World Junior Championships and played against men all year in the Czech Republic. He has top four potential.

31. Columbus Blue Jackets –Kirill Kirsanov (SKA, KHL) With the last pick in the first round the Blue Jackets go off the board and select Kirill Kirsanov. He has been rising up draft boards and played 29 games for a very good SKA team in the KHL. A physical defenseman who is strong on his skates Kirsanov also had five points for Russia at the World Junior A challenge.
