The more i continue to watch the play of this New York Islanders team, the more respect I earn for Mr. Snow and the Islanders front office.
Who would think that Josef Vasicek (the last islander pick up in the offseason) would not only be leading the Islanders in goals scored with 8, but also be leading the NHL in shooting % with 33. Again Teddy Nolan is proving to be a great motivator because big joe only had a grand total of 6 goals all of last year on the Canes!
Now back to the game against the rags and like always it was a hard fought low scoring affair.
As boring as the first 3 or 4 minutes of the game for us fans to watch on T.V. all of those icings proved to be very effective because it took the crowd immediately out of it taking away any home ice advantage the rags might have had.
The Islanders kept things simple as always, cycling the puck in the zone and looking to get puck to the slot. What I thought the Isles D did best was their ability to step on any ranger that stepped into the offensive zone. We were able to do this because we had at least 2 or 3 other guys behind the D that was stepping up.
Again you gotta love Witt and the rest of the Isles D's ability to force all of those so called superstars on that other team to the outside, not giving them an inch towards the slot.
Oh yeah and speaking of those so called superstars... i believe the rangers played what 21 games now. Jagr, Gomez and Drury that make 4.9, 7.3 and 7 million respectively and if you check the stats theyre on pace to score about 16 goals a piece. Say what you want, but at least our boy Yashy was good for at least 20 a year.
And for the Avery DP altercation, how can you blame DP for his actions against Avery. Lets face it, Avery has done too many shady things in this league, for anything not to be taken seriously. Sean has got to be in control of his stick at all times. There was also obviously the Sutton incident that his stick hit him in the face.
Bottom line, the rangers can think this is the year for them to win the cup, but the sadly for the rangers, they are going to have to get past us in the playoffs!
