Well Claude made it back. 2 way contract that has to be for league minimal is my guess as 1) Sharks don't have much free cap space 2) the guy is begging for a chance to come back.

This totally reminds me of Ozolinsh. Old NHLer on a comeback attempt. Don't get me wrong I really liked Ozolinsh but I wouldn't say it was an overly successfull project.

Now my question what is the goal of this. Is this just to get him a chance to be claimed on waivers, use him in a few games and send him back and forth, or does Lemieux have something to really add to this team and fits in with the existing team?

Does anyone have a view of what Lemieux has to offer the Sharks right now? I know who he was, but who is he now?

I just can't imagine what Lemieux could possibly bring to this dominant San Jose team. The whole thing just doesn't make a lot of sense.

All in all I would belive he will stay in the AHL to start with and maybe this tosses him on waivers right now and someone could pick him up. Would love for him to play again just don't see him acctually adding to the Sharks.

I'd be shocked if anyone picked him off waivers. But, what do I know? [chuckles] I sure as heck don't see him playing with the Sharks for any length of time. You're most likely right...he'll stay in the minors, if anything. But again...why?

Oh me oh my, hey you know if you guys are interested i'm sure you could go find Rene Corbet, Valeri Kamensky or Uwe Krupp to commiserate with him and Bozo, I bet Jeremy Roenick is pissed off..

the idea is to "unturn every stone" (as was said in tonight sharks broadcast). lemieux brings grit toughness leadership stanley cup rings/experience to the team. those are all good things, especially in the playoffs. even if it doesnt work, it wont have cost the sharks anything. i have no problem with the move.

I agree. He could possibly help if there is an injury or if someone ends up in the dog house. As you mentioned, what does it cost us? Viva La Turtle!

Ok, NHL fans. You are no longer allowed to make fun of the Rangers for signing old, washed up players.

I don't doubt that he was gritty tought and had leadership, but he has been away for some time. I don't see him filling a roll that isn't filled already. If there is an injury who would he be in for? The only person I think he could possibly be a sub for would be Shelly. I know it doesn't cost much to have this resource but could it have been used else where? Part of me really loves to see someone give a comeback a shot. With the other old timers given another shot like Sandis...he was there and we needed some leadership and experience for our D.
