Hey Everybody,

This is my first time making an NHL prediction, as I do not really like to throw myself out there, because it is almost a certainty to be wrong. However, I will give it a go this time, and I would like to see what everyone thinks about these picks.

Eastern Conference

1. Montreal Canadiens
2. Philadelphia Flyers
3. Washington Capitals
4. New Jersey Devils
5. Pittsburgh Penguins
6. New York Rangers
7. Ottawa Senators
8. Boston Bruins
9. Buffalo Sabres
10. Tampa Bay Lightning
11. Carolina Hurricanes
12. Florida Panthers
13. Toronto Maple Leafs
14. New York Islanders
15. Atlanta Thrashers

Western Conference

1. Detroit Red Wings
2. San Jose Sharks
3. Calgary Flames
4. Anaheim Ducks
5. Dallas Stars
6. Minnesota Wild
7. Edmonton Oilers
8. Colorado Avalanche
9. Chicago Blackhawks
10. Phoenix Coyotes
11. Columbus Blue Jackets
12. Nashville Predators
13. Vancouver Canucks
14. St. Louis Blues
15. Los Angeles Kings

Good luck to everyone this season. I am looking forward to seeing how well my predictions went over.

I gotta say your predictions are better than everyone else's so far. The only thing I'm not sure about is that Chicago misses the playoffs but Minnesota gets in.

I don't think 4/5 teams in the Northwest will get in...not sure about Minnesota and Colorado ahead of Chicago, Phoenix and Columbus

not sure about the devils above the pens and chicago out of the playoffs, but other than that i don't see any glaring errors. Count on that random Toronto guy showing up soon and talking about how Darren Dreger picked them to be in the playoffs and we're all stupid for failing to realize it.

Just can't see the Rangers making it into the playoffs.

I don't see the Devs finishing that high and it's very unlikely that 4/5 of the Northwest all get in.

I agree with everything except Dallas and Anahiem need to be switched as well as Chicago and Colorado other than that spot on.

Leafs get in BOOK IT!

Oh hey TheEdge the Canucks are in the same boat that Toronto is in if come January the Leafs are out of it I will change my stance about this but the season hasn't even started and already people make there jack ass assessments which RIGHT now are fruitless and empty without a 1st hand look at how the team will perform. You can't use the pre-season as a template for the regular because you never use the full roster for a pre-season game. Like I said doubt away it takes the pressure off themP.S> It wasn't just Dreger it was The Hockey News as well

Your Crazy if you think the red wings are gonna me the only team from the central division in the west to make the playoffs
October 2, 2008 7:10 PM ET | Delete
And you're crazy for having the name A Radulov 47 still...after he left your team for Russia
October 2, 2008 8:10 PM ET | Delete
so... jeck ass asessments are fruitless and empty without a first hand look at how a team will perform but somehow Dreger and the Hockey News make perfect predictions? I fail to se the logic in this. I suppose it's because they picked the Leafs, right?

Your the first person I have come across who hasn't realized the Devils are in for their worst stretch since the late 80's, and you have them fourth all the pro analysis agree their not even a playoff team any longer other than that not bad except have you not noticed the Lightning are considered retooled this year enough to easily be a playoff team

If you swap Mont. with philly, the east would be spot on

These guys have more hockey knowledge than any of us put together that's why they have the careers they have.

Looks spot on there mate...yet again...what would I know. Although I think the Toronto Marlies will finish above the Leafs this year.

The Rangers will make it as long as Lundqvist is healthy. The same goes for NJ.

I don't care what anyone thinks, the Devils made it last year in great positioning and that was without Holik and Rolston. Holik brings in some more scoring, and Rolston brings in one of the best two-way players in the game. They let Aaron Asham go, so I don't know what you are thinking if you honestly believe that won't make the playoffs!

Every year I think it will be the one where the Devils fall flat... and every year they prove me wrong... I don't think for a second they will finish 4th... but 6th or 7th would be hard to deny them... the Leafs could, in theory, make the playoffs should they lose a goal a game off of their GAA... but the likelihood of that happening is pretty slim so I'm feeling a 10th to 12th finish... possibly worse if they manage to deal Antropov, Kaberle or Toskala... Darren Dreger has a point that they COULD surprise... but come now, this team is a lot worse than last year. Were Paul Maurice and Bryan McCabe REALLY that bad?

Really, any team in the east could end up in the 8th spot. For a lot of last season there was a glut of teams pushing for it. I see the Devils making the playoffs long before the Leafs or, in fact, the Lightning. The Leafs are really just a boring team, much like my Islanders, and the Lightning are probably going to give up as many goals as they score this season, which is a lot. I can't disagree with putting the Lightning out of the playoffs. Really, those last four teams you have there in the East will probably be battling it out for last. I'd say to add the Panthers too, but they'll be just surprising enough to stay in the hunt for 8th and then miss the playoffs again.

swap Buffalo and Boston and we're good. Seriously though. Buffalo is better than Boston.
October 3, 2008 4:51 PM ET | Delete
Flip Pitt and Philly, flip Buffalo and Boston and the EC is dead-on. Out West I think that Phoenix, Colorado and Chicago are teams that could surprise. But who knows.
