Died for no apparent reason on the ice while playing or practicing a game they loved. In Canada 20-30 athletes die from sudden cardiac arrest every year. A U.S. specialist suggests that country's figure is 100 incidents per year. A reminder to all - ESPECIALLY you old farts still playing hockey - lobby or fundraise to ensure all rinks are equipped with an automated external defibrillator and at least one person on each team in your league is trained for CPR and have a co-ordinated plan in the event of an emergency.

I am not a Don Cherry fan, but he promoted this on Hockey Day in Canada and he is speaking to it on the "the Grapeline" http://www.fan590.com/grapeline06.html Apr 07 : Talking about defibrillators in Canadian arenas and Apr 03 : Efforts to increase defibrillators in arenas across Canada

Hockey 4 Life is an organization in the Metro Toronto area raising funds to equip their arenas - who's doing it in yours and what are YOU doing about it?

Defibs need to be in a lot more places along with personnel who are trained and know how to use them. Good and important post.
