Ok so I am posting this a few days after the appointment of Hull and Jackson as interim co-general managers in Dallas. This whole interim co-GM thing seems to me that Hicks wants Jackson to train Hull so that Hull can take over as the man in Dallas. I don’t mind Hull as a co-gm as long as he is just the sideline guy that is there to learn the position. Jackson has been instrumental in the Dallas draft for the last few years at least, Morrow and Niskanen are our only top shelf draft choices. This makes me think that the firing of Doug Armstring isnt going to make any difference, thus it was pointless. I am worried about Hull’s attitude and drive to finish fast. I am afraid that he will pull the trigger on things too quickly and only think about the short term, thus screwing us for the long term. I also have to wonder if Hicks appointed Hull because of his goal scoring and popularity while a player. I think that the nod should have gone to Dave Taylor. This guy was instrumental in drafting/acquiring players like Cammaleri, Frolov, Kopitar, Brown, Vishnovsky (SP?), Bernier, Johnson, etc in LA. He got a little bit of a raw deal in LA and we were able to rope him in, now we should use him! Players do not always make good GMs. Going from the “ambassador of fun” to co-GM is quite a jump. I hope I am wrong about Hull and Jackson, but I know I am right about Dave Taylor and he should be the GM.
I am trying to figure out which other GM in the league is going to pick on big D first. Pittsburgh wants Turco, Tampa wants Turco, Buffalo wants Modano, everyone wants Zubov, Teams with shootout woes may want Jokinen, lots of talk about Boucher. etc etc. anyone need an energy player? we have fedoruk winchester and miettinen... come and get it!
I could get over Turco, and maybe even Modano, but if any GM is dumb enough to give away Zubov then they should never have had the GM position. He is our transition game, he is our power play, he is our defense. Without him Dallas is lost.
I think Tippett has 2 weeks to turn this thing around in order to save his job starting tonight against Colorado. Stastny had a hat trick last time these 2 met. I think that in order to save his job, Dallas needs a very positive winning record over these next 2 weeks. 8 games in 14 days. 6-2 would be a good start towards Tip being allowed to continue behind the bench.
