Ok so now this is in no way bashing shootouts. I'm fine with the shootouts. But, why not make the game more interesting, and make teams fight for every game by eliminating the extra point for the OTL or Shootout loss? Looking at this year it would not effect the standings much, maybe a spot or 2 here or there, but if the extra point was eliminated, the Standings would look like this (for current standings you can refrence this http://www.cbssports.com/...l/standings/regularseason ):

East Points
New Jersey 92
Boston 90
Washington 88
Pittsburgh 76
Philadelphia 74
New York(R) 74
Montreal 72
Carolina 72
-----------------------------
Buffalo 68
Florida 68
Ottawa 58
Toronto 58
Atlanta 58
New York (I) 48
Tampa Bay 46

West Points
Detroit 92
San Jose 90
Carolina 80
Chicago 74
Vancouver 74
Columbus 72
Nashville 70
Edmonton 66
---------------------
Dallas 66
Minnesota 66
Anaheim 64
St. Louis 64
Colorado 62
Los Angeles 58
Phoenix 58

Ties were broken only by fewer number of games played. I mean yeah, then you would only really be going by number of wins, but that would put that much more importance on wins and would i think make the game more exciting for all. Teams wouldnt sit back and try and squeeze out a point and you would see teams being more aggressive. I think it would make for some good hockey, what does everyone else think?
