When John Ferguson Jr. took over as General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs I was hoping that he would bring the Leafs back to glory.....that didn't really happen. His first year saw the Leafs miss the playoffs for the first time since 1998, and long-time coach Pat Quinn fired after missing the playoffs by one point. It also saw Toronto buy out the contract of long-time tough guy Tie Domi and not picking up the option of goalie Ed Belfour. It also saw the additions of Michael Peca, and Pavel Kubina along with new coach Paul Maurice.

After two long years of disappointment for Leafs Nation Feguson was fired on January 22, 2008, followed by Coach Paul Maurice on May 7. Shortly after Maurice was replaced with former San Jose Sharks bench boss Ron Wilson and his coaching staff. And Cliff Fletcher came in as Interim GM of the Leafs.

On November 29, 2008 the winds of change blew through Toronto, former Anaheim Ducks General Manager, Brian Burke was hired as the new GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Burke promised a new look for the Leafs emphasizing on toughness. Leafs Nation expected Burke to come in and trade away but was disappointed quickly as Burke was mostly quite until the Deadline. Leafs fans were once again disappointed on Deadline Day as they saw Dominic Moore, Nik Antropov and a prospect who's name escapes me were all that was traded for second draft picks and a salary dump.

But on July 1, 2009 Leafs fans finally got what they wanted with Burke's first move was signing tough guy Colton Orr which immediately brought toughness to the Leafs squad. Burke then trade Pavel Kubina and the right to prospect Tim Stapleton for Garnet Exelby and Colin Stuart. Then Burke followed that by signing d-man Mike Komisarek. Burke finally delievered on what he had promised by in November. Now from what the rumour mill is saying is that the Leafs maybe trading d-man Tomas Kaberle in the next few days.

So I think what this shows is that if you are patient then what you want might just happen. I'm just saying I'm sick of hearing "Burke isn't doing anything!" if you're patient maybe he will do something. So until next time.

they may not win, but they'll be plastering other teams... especially the midgets on the Canadiens.
