With the rumour that will not just go away. I suggested this scenario back in the summer and apparently as per Mr. Lebrum the storm is about to converge.

Phil Kessel is about to make his Leaf debut this week and in the process the Leafs will have a little surplus of forwards and with the fact that there are no fewer than 4 forwards in their last year of a contract and with Annaheim looking more than ever to shed 6 million this year and 7 million next.

This is why I think Giguere will be coming here.

First we have a world class children's hospital in Sick Kids.

Second we have Francois Allaire who is not only a friend but a mentor to Giguere.

Thirdly reunited with Brian Burke.

Fourthly Anneheim could save $10 million in salary for the next 2 years the Leafs will move up to 2 forwards in their last year of their salary and earning somewhere in the 4 million range this year and will be UFA come this summer freeing up millions to the Ducks.

The above mentioned factors will push Giguere to waive his NTC.

The benefits will be plentiful the Leafs could get the best goaltending in the East hands down and in the process Gustavvson could the best of both worlds in Allaire and Giguere as Mentors and coaches.

This move makes so much sense.

best in the east?

oh boy. can barely wait to see another underachieving 'tender take the reigns.

What about Thomas and Rask?
November 2, 2009 10:55 AM ET | Delete
Giguere= Stanley CupThomas= 1 time over acheiver!I would rather have the goalie that has won the Stanley Cup IMO, Thomas had one good season any other time he has been streaky at best, ask the Bruins when they kept switching between him and Auld for a whole season.

Best in the east?????? There are at least three goalies in the east that are better on their own then those 2 combined Miller Lundquist and Brodeur all to gets in giggy is another veteren past his prime with a massive cap hit

It would only happen if Anaheim takes on some bums and gives a decent pick (2nd rounder at least) back with the Leafs. Burke has shown that he will take back salary with picks...Mayers and Blake for Giguere and a 2nd rounder...

I can't see Anaheim taking back a player like Blake. Blake has too many years left on his deal. A different name they might be looking at would be Lee Stempniak (paid 3.5, 2.5 cap)

A-Mar we would have to be crazy to trade Stempniak right now he is on fire currently and I think he would play great with Kessel and Stajan.

I think it makes sense for Toskala to go the other way. He could be a back up for the Ducks and then move on at the end of the year. I'm thinking Toskala, Poni and a 4th round draft pick for Giguere and a 1st. That opens the door for Bozak to be called up as well.

I agree with Amar and 7-11. I'd take Jiggy for Stepniak straight up but Burke would be an idiot to do it. Ducks won't take Blake because Murray wants to free up salary to be able to sign Bobby Ryan. He has stated he won't let Ryan get away a la Penner.

Isn't it against the law to drink and Blog in this Country.

Cap money has to go both ways, the Leafs are up against the cap and trading Stemp (2.5) for Giggy(6.5) won't work(financially or practically)...it would need to be Toskala and Stempniak or someone else...hopefully if it did go down TO would get a 1st or 2nd back...Giggy could be a good tandem with Gus though

Thank you leafsprospect. I didn't say it was a great idea to deal Stempniak when he is suddenly visible on the ice. Just said that he has a contract that would be attractive to head the other way in the face of the fact that Jason Blake holds no value whatsoever.

lol @ all of you guys that think you're getting gigeure AND a first back for a goalie that wouldnt even be picked up on waivers (toskala) the only player you have thats worth a first is kessel.

or kaberle. sorry
November 2, 2009 8:21 PM ET | Delete
sorry we don't have nhl superstar Dustin Penner kicking around for trade emergencies.
November 2, 2009 9:12 PM ET
Bad idea... Monster and Macdonald are a much better combination dollar wise. Trade toskala if you can but send him to Rico if not.
November 2, 2009 11:18 PM ET | Delete
Giguere is not that good. he's a blocker. good positioning but not even close to a top 20 goalie in the nhl. Monster is waaaay better.
November 3, 2009 11:20 AM ET | Delete
Thomas in Boston is 35 how many years if any do you think he has left?Brodeur as good as he is - is in the twighlight of his career as witnessed in last year's play-offs.Giguere could be the best mentor to the Monster the Monster has yet to play 10 games so the verdict on his performance in a different country in a different league with an average of 40 more games being played in North America.Giguere has a lot of game left in him.
November 3, 2009 11:29 AM ET | Delete
why does everyone think the monster is such a good goalie, he's only every played 4 games in the nhl and he only won one, which the leafs scored 6 times for him. thats not the resume of a star goalie for me, or anyone that knows anything about hockey.
November 3, 2009 2:01 PM ET | Delete
He has all the skill set and size of a Star Goalie. Its just a matter of refining him and getting him used to the speed of the game. I would add Jiggy if it meant adding a 1st. We are taking Anaheim off the hook for 7 mil in 10-11 season. that is very valuable as the Dux can add UFAs.
November 3, 2009 2:09 PM ET | Delete
Don't think you're going to get Anaheim's first considering how they've played thus far... it'd be like getting Toronto's first (whoops)
November 3, 2009 6:18 PM ET | Delete
Wow. The best in the East? Brodeur, Lundqvist, Fleury, Miller, Thomas, Ward (although not yet), and even the Islanders have a better tandem than Toronto. I guess you forgot about those guys playing in the east.In order for the Leafs to get Giguere, they would need to sweeten the pot for the Ducks even though they would be taking salary off the hands of the Ducks. What does Toronto have to give up besides under-achieving players that make too much money?
November 3, 2009 7:11 PM ET | Delete
how about you guys trade colton orr to the Isles for their first as well.. I seriously do not understand why leafs fans think their garbage has so much value.. read the steve simmons article in todays paper.. I believe the exact quote was "for those thinking that there is a market for toskala...there isn't" yet people still think they can get Giggy AND a 1st for him? really?
November 3, 2009 11:29 PM ET | Delete
we established last year that 1m is worth about a 4th rounder... so dealing Toskala for Giguere, **even if the Ducks were incredibly hurting for cap space** would probably not net more than a 3rd rounder... maybe a 2nd.
