Everyone is back from their Christmas break, and getting into the rythm of the hockey season again- except for the Sharks, who looked like their heads were still in the midst of the holiday hustle and bustle. They came out with one of their poorest efforts yet, getting shut out for the 5th time this season and losing an important 2 points needed to pull ahead of Los Angeles in the Pacific division.
The first two periods were scoreless, most of the play being dominated by the Kings, mixed with a few sporadic chances for the Sharks.
In the third the Kings started heating up, and the Sharks fell apart, giving up 3 goals to the King's Trevor Lewis, Marco Sturm, and Dustin Brown in a span of 4:41. Dustin Brown later scored a second goal for good measure, for a 4-0 final.
The Sharks have been shut out 5 times so far this season after being shut out only 5 times in their previous 3 seasons combined.
Only 4 Sharks players (Jamal Mayers, Niclas Wallin, Douglas Murray, and Scott Nichol) had an even or positive +/-.
Kent Huskins played his 250th NHL game.
Trevor Lewis had 6 shots in tonights game, his highest total in a game this season.
My Picks For The Sharks 3 Stars:
1: Niclas Wallin (4 hits, 1 blocked shot, 1 takeaway, even +/-)
2: Jamie McGinn (1 blocked shot, 4 hits)
3: Antti Niemi ( 4 goals against, 33 saves, .892 Sv %)
