Sid Getting His Chances

Henrik Zetterberg, Mats Sundin, Jarome Iginla, Daymond Langkow, Nik Antropov, Paul Stastny, Mike Cammalleri, Rick Nash, Daniel Alfredsson, Patrick Kane, Justin Williams, Rod Brind'Amour, Eric Staal, Anze Kopitar, Daniel Briere.

As of this morning all of these players were ahead of Sid The Kid in the point race. Sid, despite scoring 12 points in 9 games, is 6 behind Henrik for the overall lead. This may come to the surprise of people like John Buccigross who predicted a stat line of 45-91-136 for the season as Sid is currently on a 118 pace but fear not, I predict he will get things revved up in the coming weeks.

I have been watching a lot of Pittsburgh games on Center Ice so far this season and have been impressed by Sid's nose for the net this year. He is always circling or putting passes in optimal scoring spots. Its been his teammates that have been letting him down by not converting scoring chances. Last night against the Leaves, there were at least 3 chances not cashed in.

Also, Sid has been beaten by an eyelash a few times. Who could forget that toe save by Price against him a few games ago? Sid might not be at the top at the moment nor on pace for Bucci's prediction but after watching his almost(s), I think its only a matter of time before they become definitely(s).

Maybe the poor play of Fleury is keeping the rest of the team down. Crosby can't do everything himself...

The toe save from Price, the just-shy-of-the-net shot again Tosk the other night, he's certainly had his chances but I agree - it's on his teammates too. In the grand scheme of things though, six points isn't much. Especially when he had 6 assists in one game last year against the Flyers. Don't get me wrong, Zett is insane this year. Even as a Pens fan I can honestly say Sid has his work cut out for him this season with Zett, Stastny and Iginla. But, it's still early, and people are saying he's yet to 'heat up'. If 12 points in 9 games is not hot enough, I'd like to see what is...
