Flyers Mini Camp

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
This is my first blog. Last week I spent 3 days over at the Flyers practice rink to watch some of their mini camp. I just needed a hockey fix in mid July and this was perfect. I spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday over there. Wednesday and Thursday were all drills and your typical hockey practice. Friday was a scrimmage between the two groups. New Flyers asst coach...
According to the team's website, the Phantoms have signed veteran goalie Brian Boucher to a contract. No terms were released. “Brian is a good goalie who will add depth to the organization and solidify our goaltending situation,” said GM Paul Holmgren in making the announcement. Boucher is a decent insurance policy should Antero Niittymaki or Martin Biron falter or...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157603516543022/ Video of the fights http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCSVRQlTn5Q I admit as long as the Phantoms have been in Philadelphia I only went to my First Phantoms game last year. I do like going. Their games are good often hard hitting affairs. I had seats where I have never been before on the glass between...

Phantoms won 6-2 It is slightly addictive sitting in the front row against the glass and then to sit next to the bench too well you can tell I was truly camer...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157603794370420/ For whatever reason Friday nights from my work to the Wachovia Complex doesn't take as long so I had an easy time getting down and in. There was just a ton of people at this game last night. I basically had to park closer to the Wachovia Center then the spectrum. I picked up my ticket at Will call and ...

Pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157604117852568/ Thanks Brooke and Karen for hanging out it was very fun. I got to the game in time for warmups. I decided I wanted to shoot from the corner to get more face shots. I feel like I shoot at the Phantoms backs all the time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2334445808/in/set-72157604117852568/...

First THANK YOU ERICA! awesome day! 2nd Thank you Brooke and Karen! Come on that was fun wasn't it? Shout outs to Brenda, Jessica, KB, Rad, HF, Lou, Alan and Drew! I knew this would be a long day. Phantoms playoff game 6 starting @ 1pm their last game having gone into 5 OT's . The Flyers playing @ 7pm away in Montreal but a viewing party hosted by the Flyers...
Today the Flyers made some minor moves that puzzled many. They traded recently acquired defenseman Janne Niskala to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 6th Round Pick in 2009. I was confident Niskala would be a good #5/#6 for the Flyers as soon as next year, hopefully he does well in Tampa Bay. Basically in the end the Flyers accomplished a two things out of this: 1) Acquiring ...
Stefan Ruzicka has decided to go back to Europe to play. The Flyers will still retain his rights since the transfer agreement is not in effect. WIth this loss the Phantoms will likely need another forward, I wouldn't be surprised if the Flyers signed one of their prospects in the coming days. Ruzicka is a great AHL player, but never seemed to be able to achieve in the NHL....
Shout outs to the practice crew Sami it was very nice to make your acquaintance today. On the Phantoms side they did some type of testing today. It looked like the type of things I have seen them do as part of Physicals. The players that were on this side going through things were mostly Phantoms players. The Flyers side of the ice hosted a double feature. Fi...
First we had the Phantoms. First thing I notice here is none of the D are in black like for the Flyers. D men are wearing Red and Green. Forwards wore either White or Orange. Most of the practices earlier in the week were run by Kjell and Neil. today's was run directly by Paddock. They did pretty standard drills. the one that caught my attention the most had...
It was a double does of hockey in Philly yesterday. Both Philly teams won. While I did not attend both events personally I can still hook you all up with pictures from the Spectrum game. Erica's pictures full set http://www.flickr.com/photos/rickilynn7/sets/72157607558870088/ Sandy's Pictures full set http://www.flickr.com/photos/25870841@N07/sets/721576075...
Bill Meltzer did a fabulous job describing the game here http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=17111&blogger_id=45 I am not out to recreate that just to share my thoughts and observations. BIG THANK YOUS TO Zack Hill for being very awesome. Scottie Upshall, Scott Hartnell, JS Aubin, Glen Metropolit, Aaron Asham, Steve Eminger, Jeff Carter, Riley Cote...
Paddock had the Phantoms do a pretty aggressive skate for a game day. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2929209009/in/set-72157607916870391/ Aubin skated with the Phantoms http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2929208059/in/set-72157607916870391/ Flyers seemed really really loose at practice. That makes me hopeful for the opener. http://www.flickr.co...
Ok I am behind so only one post. Thank you everyone I met or ran into last night at the Flyers games that said they saw my pics or thanked me for writing and posting. I guess I didn't realize how many people read and look at my things. It was greatly appreciated. Flyers game Warmups are starting to be helmet optional. Not sure where this trend started but it...

Phantoms lost 5-4 and were out shot by a good bit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2951710514/in/set-72157608136997054/ It seemed like former Phantom Darren Reid was everyone's favorite target of the night. not even a minute into the game he got pounded by new Phantom Jeff Szwez (I want to be on record that Szwez looks alot like Damon Trebuchet from the soap M...

Phantoms lost 3-1. This was the debut of the Phantoms new third Jerseys that are all purple. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2952835251/in/set-72157608155866404/ Game was not as chippy as vs the Bears but it has its' moments. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2953734778/in/set-72157608155866404/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/2952894009/in/...
It was a Phantoms type of weekend Shout outs to Brenda, Sandy, Jessica, Cody, Joyce, Karen, Erica, Steph and everyone else who played along.... I had to work Friday that meant no Flyers Phantoms double header for me. I was hoping the Phantoms would again wear their new third jerseys but no luck. The Falcons coming to town meant the return of former Flyers...

Shout outs to the Phantoms crew Phantoms won 5-2 Pat Maroon had a hat trick the final goal being an empty netter. He was also the game's first star. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/3088068533/in/set-72157610839899392/ It initially looked as if the Phantoms were going to run away with this game. Then the B Sens changed goalies and it shifted the momentum ...
Shout out to the big crew at practice today! Thank you Marty Biron for stopping today after practice! Flyers had an optional practice It was Parent, Powe, Nodl Carle and I am not sure whom else as I stayed with the Phantoms when someone told me that it was not the full Flyers team on the ice. HEre are the couple pics I took of them http://www.flickr.com/ph...
Shout outs to everyone. This was a big hockey filled weekend. I took in the Phantoms win Friday night over the Lowell Devils, The Flyers win over the Capitals and the Phantoms shootout loss to the Admirals on Saturday. First I know you all want to see Randy Jones http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/3121297625/in/set-72157611365592117/ http://www.flickr.co...
Neither the Flyers nor the Phantoms had much success this weekend. Both teams lost Friday and Saturday. Saturday looked like both games might end by the same score but The Admirals seemed to turn and burn and the Phantoms ended up loosing 7-2. I have faith that both teams will turn things around. Both teams have injuries to key players and the flu making rounds. ...
Ok All I have the most busy hockey schedule ever over the last few weeks and have seen alot of hockey in the process. First I would like to say my thoughts and prayers are with Garrett Klotz. I am not sure if anyone is aware that he suffered a seizure last night following a fight off the opening faceoff. I encourage everyone who reads this to send some positive ge...

Philadelphia Hockey weekend

HI everyone it has been a long time since I posted anything. Mostly I have barely had time for me then to even get something in writing and up for you guys too. Anyway..... I had quite a full hockey weekend. I saw the Flyers thursday, Phantoms Friday and both Flyers and Phantoms on Saturday in different locations. Then the crown jewel of the weekend was the Flyer...

This Friday I have a caught up DVR accept for ace of Cakes. Amazing what getting injured in hockey tournaments does for your DVR. The last couple weeks I have covered hockey withdrawal and Player fan interaction. I appreciate the feedback you all have given. I love hearing everyone’s stories. The AHL schedule came out this week. I think you all know that i...
I took the drive this weekend to see the Phantoms new home. It is a classic old AHL barn. It was not a bad place to see a game. Saturday night's game sold out and had a ton of people doing the standing room only thing. Randy Jones http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/3983825432/in/set-72157622400203853/ Mormina http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/3983773140...
Bridgeport CT is closer then Glens Falls NY. I will be doing closer games vs going to Glens Falls this season. Phantoms won 4-2. They believe it or not rolled all 4 lines for the whole game. Randy Jones did not play for the Phantoms but Brian Boucher did. http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/4026178848/ Kevin Marshall looked very strong on D http://www...

Adirondack Against Amerks

Last weekend, my wife and I decided to go to tonight’s Amerks game with my parents. We decided that we were going to try to go and reap the benefit of tonight’s Salute the Troops night (my dad is a former Marine). The following, is the events that transpired in Rochester, NY, at Blue Cross Arena. We decided to park a few blocks away due the heavy flow of traffi...

Why You Should Pass on Being Giroux's RW Actually a joke as many players would kill to play with such an elite player but this year G's right wingers have been having some serious bad luck. First Hartnell breaks his foot and now earlier this week in an intense rivalry game with the Pens, Matt Read tore rib muscles and is out for 6 weeks. Injuries in general are pla...
