According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets are believed to be interested in defenseman Fedor Tyutin of the New York Rangers, and possibly center Erik Christensen of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Could we be seeing the fruits of a long-standing stay by the scouts of these two teams, especially the Rangers? Tyutin is young (24) and looks to be coming into his own in the NHL….finally. Took him a while to get going, likely due to the pressure of playing in a big market like New York.
He’s really good in his own end and has shown ability to work the PP. Said qualities would benefit the Jackets as they gear up for the second-half push.
Erik Christensen is a toss-up. He has a sick wrist shot (hey-o Jaroslav Balastik) and decent wheels, but where could he possibly fit on the Jackets? All depends on what’s going the other way. Christensen has potential to play second or third-line duty, and same was said of current Jacket Jiri Novotny. Look how he’s turned out- one of (if not the best) all-around players on the team.
My guess is that it would take a lot more to get Tyutin than Christensen. The Rangers seem pretty high on Tyutin, as he’s banking some pretty big minutes of late.
Some shameless speculation here….
Fritsche + 3rd round pick for Tyutin, or
Chimera for Christensen + pick
The Rangers are believed to be seeking some grinders. Fritsche fits the bill, and he’s a free agent at season’s end, as with Jason Chimera.
Pittsburgh is well-booked at center, and Christensen could be available. Their bottom six could use a veteran force on the wing, especially with Gary Roberts out for the year.
Ryan will be on later giving his thoughts on Pascal Leclaire’s snub from the All-Star festivities.
Pascal Leclaire should have made the All-Star game. But who would you leave off? The west has so many good goalies that it is impossible to have all of them make the All-Star game.
I don't know, but Pascal deserved it the most out of every goalie in the West.
Are you kidding a top 4 D -man for Fritche and a 3rd round pick. Yeah it looks like the Rangers are trying to ripp off another NHL team with that deal. Not too mention the tandum of Toots an Girardi is set. Open up with a first rounder and then they could talk.
The Rangers will not be trading Tyutin unless they get a top 4 defenseman or top six forward in return.
Like the league wants to market Pascal Leclaire by putting him in the All-Star game...he is ugly and French...no REEBOK deals in his future.
