The
Boston Bruins announced yesterday that the club has re-signed goaltender Hannu Toivonen to a one-year deal worth $532,000 US.
This most likely is a sign-and-trade since there is no room in the Bruins organization for him. The Bruins are rumoured to be looking for a No. 1 goaltender and may pursue Jean-Sebasiten Giguere.
Tim Thomas has another two years left on his contract and will most likely backup whoever they bring in as the No. 1 goalie.
Joey MacDonald, who they plucked off waivers from Detroit in late February, is a restricted free agent and the Bruins most likely won't qualify him, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.
This leaves Toivonen playing in the minors, which he probably doesn't want to do for another year. Upon signing the contract, he probably was promised that if he doesn't earn a job at training camp, he will be traded.
