I don’t want to say what both teams should or shouldn’t do, or compare players to see who would get the best deal. To me, this one just makes sense, and it falls into place with the only scenario I can realistically think would work (for both).

Savard already expressed interest in waiving his NTC for both Ontario Teams if the right trade came along. Does it make sense for both teams? Yes. But what could we offer? BM is reluctant to change the team's chemistry or get rid of any core guys, and the way its looking I’m getting the feeling he’s not gonna change a whole lot. So how could we make it work? And what would it leave us with?

Ottawa has 4 spots at Center with almost twice the number of guys who can fill in. Line 1 and 2 are pretty much set, line 3 could be juggled, and line 4 you probably don’t want him playing there. We’d most likely need to send 1 Centerman back. Boston needs to free up some space, and they don’t need another C with Seguin coming up.

They need a decent return and cap space.

We got Jason Spezza - Mike Fisher – Peter Regin – Chris Kelly - Jesse Winchester - Zack Smith. Fisher, Regin, Kelly and Winchester can all play wing, so there’s a lot of room to make it work. Coming into Camp, we got to many bodies competing for the same position, so if I’m the GM, I see this as an opportunity to make the team significantly better, and clean up a log jam up front. So a Chris Kelly package might be the best damn thing to make it work.

He can play Wing, and he can do it well. And at 2.125 a season that’s a good chuck towards comparable dollars. We’d obviously need to send in a few prospects, probably with NHL experience, and that can be sent down or worked on at a cheap cost. 2 of either Brian Lee, Chris Campoli, Ryan Shannon or Jesse Winchester. Ottawa got to much depth, and they need a top 6 guy. Boston needs the space, and could send down a few guys to make it work.

GapGeek’s new Upgraded Cap Calculator made this a whole lot easier.

So In the end, it makes Ottawa a better team without changing a whole lot overall and cleans things up. It gives Boston options, a descent winger and a few good projects to work on. This is purely speculation, It’s just my opinion, but to me this just makes sense. The cap dollars work, and both teams get what they need.

Is it enough to give back? Is it to much? I dunno.. Again, I’m not trying to compare player to players, to me this just makes sense.

Mike Fisher's gritty two-way game is likely a better fit on line three. I can't imagine him putting up significantly more than 25g, 55pts in any given season (nothing to sneeze at) so if Marc Savard is a possibility at a decent cost, it wouldn't be a hugely disrupting force in filling out the lineup card while still providing a serious upgrade to scoring depth.

It's a fun idea to think of Savard in a Sens uniform. I'd love to see that deal you mentioned and Fish would play the 3rd line center...

Both teams are near the cap limit, so it'd pretty much have to be a dollar-for-dollar trade. While it would upgrade us offensively up the middle, losing Kelly would hurt us too much defensively, especially on the PK. Not to mention Savard has been hurt a LOT recently.

I think it would be a great fit for Ottawa... but the only thing I see working for the Bruins is taking a D-man like Kuba or Phillips... If they were to burry Ryder in the minors...

Savard's contract is ridiculous (long and expensive), and he had a serious concussion last year. I'm not sure Ottawa would be willing to take on that risk long term. Also, I'm pretty sure Savard's list of teams grew since July 1st (something to do with the terms of his contract and NTC). I believe the Islanders are on that list, which would be a better fit, but I'm speculating about the list....

I can't imagine the Bruins going dollar for dollar in any move. The only reason they would seek to move Savard is his recent injury history and heft of contract. Sure, Chris Kelly and his 2m stipend could be the bulk of any move, but you've gotta figure they are looking for some cap relief, be if shipping Michael Ryder WITH Savard or taking back only picks and prospects.

Ottawa's cap is in the minus, they can't afford Savard. And the B's can't afford to take back salary. Don't see how they can work out a deal. Not bloody likely!

Ottawa's cap is under the limit, by moving a 2mil guy and a few bodies they can make it work, boston needs to send a few out or down, thats it. Move a few ahl guys down in the link I posted, it could work, but i doubt boston would go dollar for dollar
