Hey y'all. I'm no to the blogesphere and am extremely excited to start writing mine. The first thing I want to do is tell you i'm a big time Oilers, also there's not much I don't know about hockey. I'm a hockey fanatic!
My first article is going to be in defense to my Oilers. Yes I know they finished last this previous season, and that most predict they will repeat that. I don't agree with those assumptions. Here, let's take a look.
09-10 Starting Lineup Roster
Jacques-Horcoff-Hemsky
O'Sullivan-Cogliano-Comrie
Penner-Brule-Stone
Moreau-Gagner-Stortini
ex:Nilsson, MacIntyre
Souray-Gilbert
Visnovsky-Grebeshkov
Smid-Staios
ex:Strudwick
Khabibulin
Deslauriers
The biggest assets on the team were named Hemsky, Souray, and Khabibulin. All of those players spent a considerable amount of time on the IR. To make matters worse, Guys like Horcoff, O'Sullivan, and Grebeshkov underaheived.
The only positives last year were the fact that we got an amazing performance from Dustin Penner, who was 08-09's whipping boy. Also we got solid production from a call up Ryan Potulny. Tambellini started breaking the team down during the season by making some solid deals. Lubomir Visnovsky performed extremely well, even had Norris consideration. However with a contract like his, he became a valuable trade asset. For Visnovsky, the Oil acquired
a leader in Ryan Whitney. Whitney played like a king upon arriving in Edmonton excelling on a pairing with Tom Gilbert. Tambi was also able to snag away a 3rd round draft choice and Aaron Johnson for the aging Steve Staios.
And the underrated Tambi move, made by claiming Ryan Jones off waivers from Nashville. The team underwent more changes with the attitude of "Out with the Old, in with the New" and departed ways with Ethan Moreau, Robert NIlsson,
and Patrick O'Sully. That made room for the extremely talented young guns in the Oiler System. Now the team looks like this.
Penner-Gagner-Hemsky
Hall-Horcoff-Eberle
Paajarvi-Brule-Cogliano
Jacques-Fraser-Stortini
ex:Jones, MacIntyre
Gilbert-Whitney
Smid-Foster
Vandermeer-Strudwick
ex: Plante
Deslauriers
Dubnyk
(Souray and Khabby won't be at camp)
With the example that the Colorado Avalanche set last season, young can
win! Duchene, Yip, Stewart, Quincey, O'Reilly, Galiardi etc. etc. Those
names weren't as praised as the Oilers group of Hall, Eberle, Paajarvi,
Omark, Plante etc. etc. Only time will Tell but I believe the Oilers
will be a faster and stronger team this season. I put them 9th in the
West for my predictions. However, I think they could see playoff time
this year.
