I have been saying since the lock-out the the NHL needs to change up its divisions.
Just to make the travel a little more fair for every team. It would be a tough sell to the NHL governers, but saying that it could make sence if done properly.
You would have 5 conferences instead of six, North(Canadian),south, east,mid west, and west. here is how they would look:

I really believe that it would rekindle old rivalries and create new ones. Save on costs and create a new interest in the United States. And further down the line if more Canadian Teams join we can do minor adjustments. What do you think?
A Canadian North division would be not be good for any of the Canadian teams. they would be traveling way more than the other divisions. All of the other divisions you list would work, but the North would be murder.
