This is intended as a reference only, but I thought I'd crunch the numbers for you all so you don't have to.
What I did was take the top 20 Goal Scorers from each NHL season since the lockout, and added their goal totals, ONLY IN THOSE SEASONS IN WHICH THEY FINISHED AMONG THE TOP 20. I think this approach gives you a better idea of how each player fares in comparison to their peers on a year be year basis, as opposed to simply adding up all the goal totals for every player for every year...
Interesting to note, in the 6 seasons since the lock-out, 65 different players have finished in the top 20 scorers at least once. 33 of them have only reached top 20 status once in their careers, which gives you an idea of just how hard it is to be a consistent threat to score at the NHL level today.
Without further ado, the list...
1: Alexander Ovechkin (301)
2: Jarome Iginla (235)
3: Ilya Kovalchuk (230
4: Dany Heatley (219)
5: Sidney Crosby (191)
6: Eric Staal (156)
7: Thomas Vanek (151)
8: Rick Nash (143)
9: Vincent Lecavalier (127)
10(TIE): Simon Gagne (122)
10(TIE): Marian Gaborik (122)
10(TIE): Marian Hossa (122)

20: Jonathon Cheechoo (93)
There you have it folks... thoughts?
Nice work, Juicer. I like this last (as a representation of "pure" goal scorers) better than I like Yost's... Even though it is kinda funny to see Olli Jokinen in there ahead of Steven Stamkos haha.Side note: Can't to watch Rider Nation crying into their watermelons post Labour Day classic this year :P
list*; Can't wait* to watchFack
Remind me never to try commenting on a MyHB blog again, lol
Somebody has way too much time on their hands.....
@ZachParise9He lives in Saskachewan. What else is he going to do?
Olli Jokinen made the list? That's surprising.
Juicer?...Olli finished in the top 20 in goals 3 times in the last 6 years. Basically, if you got there 3 times, you made the list. If not, and your name isn't Cheechoo, you didn't.
No... that was me. Juiced... Damn Monday night Crown binges :(
Try doing a GPG analysis...that way Cheechoo won't show up on the list and guys like Stamkos will get their due.
The point was to show something fun, odd, and interesting for players vs their peers. Actual goals scored as opposed to GPG is more interesting to me.
