4 days after training camps start and Drew Doughty has already had $100,000 taken off his offer from the LA Kings setting it currently at an impressive 6.7 million USD.
Many people are wondering why Doughty hasnt signed yet? LA has a talented squad who are going to be legitimate contenders this year. Lombardi has come out and said that he will not move Doughty as he "will be a franchise player"
Whats the big hold up?
Drew Doughty is skating with the London Knights right now and word from the JLC is that... '' it's not about the money''...it has to do with term and the fact that his heart is not in LA and he wishes he could report on the real issues to show that he is not the bad guy here...the media has taken the kings side and the puppets are having their strings pulled by the media.
LA has a team with many player in or entering their prime right now and Doughty doesnt want to play his career in LA, which is understandable.
This begs the question of what kind of contract Doughty wants. The money is their Drew knows hes worth 6+ million so he's not worried about that, hes looking for a 4 year deal that will let him see FA so he can move on and win in other cities.
Lombardi wants to lock him up for 8 years which is a huge chunk of his career and its not in the interests of Doughty to commit that kind of term to one team..
Who's in the wrong here and can a compromise be met?
