Word on the street (New york Post) is that the New Jersey Devil are in talks with the NHL to get a cash advance if you will because they are losing money and losing money fast.
"Vanderbeek, who owns 47 percent of the team, does not have the money to fund losses, while billionaire Ray Chambers, who also owns 47 percent, no longer wants to fund the team.
Last year, Vanderbeek unsuccessfully tried to sell Chambers’ stake. Chambers has offered to pay lenders $24 million to get out of his financial guarantee, indicating that he believes the club is not worth more than its roughly $200 million in team and stadium debt."
Aside from losing money, the team has not been able to repay an $80 million principal payment that was originally due Sept. 1.
It seems the only way for the Devils to escape this is to trade Parise and get something at the deadline rather than nothing when he becomes a free agent July1st. Parise makes $6million and for an extension he would either cost somewhere in the ballpark of an 8-10Million per year something the Devils simply cannot afford.
My assumption is that it would take something like oh I don't know the next four first round draft picks.
I say if the Sabres can do this, do it! the Sabres have a well fueled crop of players in Rochester ready and urging to have their shining moment in the spotlight on the big stage that is the National Hockey league.
The Sabres have pieces that can be replaced by trade with the hot topics being Roy, Stafford, Boyes, you have nothing lose but some draft picks.
As always Buffalo can dump salary fast to make room for Parise like oh I dont know maybe a certain player named Villie "Doesn't Score Enough" Leino
Yes they could go on to be big stars but Rochester has many who are ready to be break out stars for Buffalo.
Thats My spiel on this whats yours?
LETS GO BUFFALO!

As much as I'd like Parise, there is no way in hell we should give up our next four first rounders to get him. Not when we're a few games away from being the worst in the league (We've got the basement spot in Conference down already). And Leino isn't going anywhere with that contract and this year's performance. No way he gets bought out after only one year.
Stopped reading after "New York Post". Use credible sources next time.
Hey you keep your greasy Buffalo paws off our future failure! :-P
Four number ones for a UFA ? Are you high ?
Flames should consider this as well. The way the team as used first round picks in the last 15 years... Saprykin, Kobasew, Chucko, Pelech, Geeez I could go on and on...(Irving and Baertshi are bright spots)... Our best first round recently has been Erixon in 2009 because Feaster turned it into Horak and Granlund
