This summer, I took part in a charity ice hockey tournament called Checking For Charity. Although it was a painful way to learn just how badly my skills have deteriorated since the last time I played regularly, it was one of the most fulfilling weekend experiences of my life. I discovered the event around the same time that I learned about Defending The Blueline(DTBL), an organization near and dear to the heart of former New York Rangers enforcer, Derek Boogaard, and decided to enter a team to raise money for them in the tournament.
DTBL is a charitable organization that has been established to help keep the children of American soldiers involved in youth hockey programs. You can learn about the great work that they do by visiting
www.defendingtheblueline.org. Even better, you can help them do even more with a simple click of a button.
Currently, Defending The Blue Line is competing for an award from the White House called the Joining Forces Community Challenge. This amazing non-profit organization has been recognized and selected as one of twenty national finalists for the work that they are doing for military families. You can help them win by clicking here and voting for them. That’s much easier than playing three ice hockey games in a single day on thirty-eight year old knees. Shane Hudella, the founder of DTBL knows that this award will help provide many deserving children with a future in the sport that they love.
“Winning this award would do a tremendous amount of good for our organization. We have been just absolutely overwhelmed this past year with our growth and demand for our services and the benefits we provide to deserving military families. This recognition would likely allow us to bring on additional staff to meet the growing needs of our service men and women who are stationed throughout the world.”
Please check out their website, and vote for them in the Joining Forces Community Challenge. You could help keep the next great hockey legend on the ice today. More importantly, you can show your appreciation for the military parents of these great kids. These brave men and women routinely put the safety of our great nation ahead of the needs of their own families every day. Show your support, and go vote.
