Well hello everyone, my name is Jason and I will try and blog as much I as can. Let me start off by telling you about me, I'm 30, married and have three girls. I have a been a leaf fan for a long time and felt I should start a blog.
Since there's has not been a lot of big news for leafs nation I figure I'll talk about the Rick Nash deal. At first I was like a lot of people and thinking "what has Columbus done " but after thinking it out the trade isn't all bad. I mean really, this is probably the best deal out there since Rick Nash went public about wanting to be traded. Only waving his no -trade for a few teams and not to mention that huge $7.8 million contract.
Now I know there's no key guy coming back to Columbus, but if you look at the numbers its not that bad. Dubinsky hit 20+ goals twice and career high 54 points two years ago plus he's a good two player with some sand paper, he should fit into a good second line spot and could be a 60 point guy.
Artem anisimov is only 24 and has good size. Now his only had a career high 34 points but since he's younger could develop into a top six guy but probably be a third liner that can help produce.
Tim Exrixon is only 21 and was drafted 23rd by the flames, projected to be a top 4 dman. Could make the jump this year to the NHL.
Also the first overall pick is good but probably won't be any higher then 20th so that's not as big as it seems but could be a good trading tool.
Now by no means am I saying the blue jackets won this deal, losing Nash will hurt ticket sales and really hurt fan interest, but I remember when Joe Thornton was traded to San Jose for brad Stuart, Wayne Primeau and Marco Sturm. It gave the bruins a new start and ultimately a Stanley Cup.
Artie has a career high of 44 points. Both he and Dubi are great defensively. Artie actually has a higher career points/minute a 5v5 than Nash, so if given top 6 ice time it's likely both break 50 points. Erixon is projected to be a top pair guy, so even better.Quite the impressive return for a guy who underperforms his contract and wanted out.
Hey Jason...thanks for joining and good job on your first blog. Sorry to hear your a leafs fan though.....I'll pray for you...lol! You made a great point at the end of your blog. Every franchise needs a re-start every now and then. This could be Columbus'. Cheers.
It's not horrible trade for Columbus. They got two established, young NHL players. Erixon has a lot of skill and potential, as well. Unfortunately, the Jackets were backed into a corner. Nash was only willing to go to a handful of teams, and some of the teams on that list either didn't have the assets or were not willing to give them up. The good part for the Rangers was getting Nash without giving up a core guy.
Don't quit your day job.
