Today is yet another milestone in the hockey fans emotional roller coaster. Each time I resolve the idea of not having hockey, hope springs up that maybe there will be a resolution to the lockout. I know that I would prefer it to be over and just have hockey, but I am a little tired of getting my hopes up only to have them squashed by the egos and nonsense that is the CBA negotiations.
On paper it looks to be positive. It simply does not make sense for either side to have a lockout, then again not much of the negotiations have made sense up until now, so why should they start.
I will jump on board one more time and hope the talks are positive and fruitful this weekend. The voice in the back of my head screaming, cool there will be hockey! Knowing that come Monday I may be back in the darkness and emptiness of another failed attempt at the expense of the fans.
It is not that I don't empathize with either side. They both have their wants and needs. To me that is all irrelevant when it comes to hockey. I want to see the natural progression of the teams, new talent, rookies, trades. See them grow and watch the rivalries between the teams as they progress. This work stoppage takes that away, makes the business side more apparent. It is like going to a concert. I don't want to see them set up the stage and move the equipment or know the details of what leads up to the show.
I want to see the show! I am weighing in on the optimist side, just my nature. Let's hope we are not disappointed yet again.
