Hello there! So this is my first attempt ever at writing a blog about anything. Let's see how it goes.
Perhaps an introduction is in order? I've been watching the Coyotes play hockey since I moved to Phoenix in 1998. The first hockey game I ever went to was a playoff game the Coyotes were hosting against the San Jose Sharks. I had never been to any game with so much intensity and passion. Needless to say, I was instantly turned into a fan of hockey and the Yotes. My blogs will be just my opinion on their play, trades, and any other topic that comes up throughout the seasons. If there any questions that are dwelling in your mind, feel free to ask.
SO with that said, let's get started on the 2013 Yotes team...
This season's team has been a model of inconsistency, but I believe there are some reasons for this.
Injuries have been a plague for the Yotes in this season. They have lost Sullivan, Hanzal, Klesla, Lombardi, Smith, Schlemko, and not to mention the infamous Torres lost time for his suspension. That is a tremendous list considering we are just 13 games into the season at this point. On that list is their star goaltender, 2 quality centers, their leading scorer at the time, and two great shot blocking defense-men. This is just one of those things that will happen in the game of hockey. Minnesota suffered a similar fate last season after their incredible start.
Slow starts by the Yotes leaders is also a concern. Doan has been known as a slow starter in his career, so don't be concerned about his play just yet. In fact, he has been pretty serviceable so far. Vrbata has been leading the team in points, however his goal scoring output has dropped to just 3 goals to go along with his 8 assists. This is a more concerning problem. He is feeling the absence of Whitney this season. This also may be a product of the crazy line combinations that Tippet has to use with the glut of injuries. After the team gets healthy, if he continues to score at this pace then there might be a real issue.
These problems have led to the Coyotes being a team that's hard to peg as a contender or a pretender. They will have games like their win over San Jose on Feb. 9th, and then lose horribly like they have both times they have played the Hawks. Which leads to them currently sitting 7th in the Western Conference with 14 points in 13 games.
Overall, I have a feeling that the Coyotes have yet to play their best hockey this season by far. Once they get healthy and get a solid line combination rolling, then we will see exactly what kind of team they are. Don't forget, they have Coach Tippet at the helm, and he knows how to get his teams into the playoffs consistently.
Lastly, any constructive advice or tips anyone reading this has would be much appreciated. Also, ideas for future blogs will also be appreciated. Thanks for reading! Hopefully this will be an ongoing thing and we can have some interesting hockey conversations.
