Another Disaster in Alberta

Craig MacTavish was a semi-decent coach who became disliked and disrespected by the Edmonton Oilers fan base. When he came back as the new General Manager he promised swift action to create an Oilers team that would start to compete. Unfortunatley putting yourself in the rumors to recieve players in Trades means nothing if you don't even follow through on a single one. Once again MacTavish has dug himself into a hole with the Oilers fan base and deservingly so, since (besides Belov) he has done nothing but make empty promises and miss sure-fire opportunities.
Finally the Draft ...
Round 1
7. With Edmontons first selection, the Oilers select Darnell Nurse.
No-one was suprised, we needed a defencemen with the abilities that he is projected to bring to the team. He isn't going to help us for a year or two, but count on him to figure himself into the number 3 defencemen role in the 2015-2016 season.
Round 2
I was very specific in wanting Edmonton to Select Tristan Jarry, he is an outstanding Goalie prospect who would be added to a (VERY) slim goalie prospect pool, and the best part? The Oilers own the organization he plays for in the OilKings. Unfortunatley Craig MacTavish traded the Oilers 37th pick in the Draft to L.A. for three picks (we didn't need). An absolute nightmare of epic proportions on the Management part that caused me to "lose my mind" with frustration.
56. Marc-Olivier Roy
A right-wing with decent point production (just over a point-pre-game). He will be signed if he continues that pace, but at the most will be a depth player projection wise.
Round 3
83. Bogdan Yakimov
If at some point, he decides he wants to play in the NHL he will not put up huge numbers or be counted on in anything other than a role position. That's IF they sign him, and with his numbers and production, I highly doubt they do.
88. Anton Slepyshev
This guy is hard to figure out, he has alot of skill and should have gone way early. I didn't terribly mind this selection, but he may never want to play in the NHL. If he does, he could figure into a 3rd line role in a year or two.
Round 4
94. Jackson Houck
Just what the Oilers need, another RW who can create scoring chances but can't play defence worth a damn. He will have to improve other aspects of his game while generating the same kind of points. It's not a whole-lot to ask, considering the Giants of the Western Hockey League were just plain awful and he will most likely get more minutes on a roster that will have to be re-shapped or the Giants fans could Riot (most of them are Canuck fans, so it's not a "way out their" prediction".
96. Kyle Platzer
I am not going to lie to you, unless he produces about 5 times more then he does now, he could potentially grow into a lesser version of Eric Belanger.
113. Aidan Muir
He is still young, but will have to produce alot more to crap an entry level deal. I can't see this guy making it out of college, maybe he will get a degree in something?
5th Round
128. Evan Campbell
Finally a pick that makes sense, we get a point producing centerman. His points were impressive but it was in the BCHL and not in the WHL which is a different and higher level. He needs to start moving up into tougher leagues for me to get a better read on him. Maybe a 4th line centerman in 5 years.
6th Round
158th. Ben Betker
A large, non-productive defenceman with only one upside, to take penalties (if that's really an upside). They might as-well just have passed on this pick.
7th Round
188. Greg Chase
Good upside in skill, but not alot of Compete. Don't count on him to produce points at valueable points in the game. Contributes when he wants to.
This Draft was an absolute nightmare, we needed a goalie and we didn't pick a single one. MacTavish might have actually set us on course for another disapointing season with his bad choices. Edmonton was one of the worst teams at drafting this year, coming away with less talent than some teams who didn't even draft till the 3rd round.
Look on the bright side though! At-least we got Clutterbuck
..oh-wait, that was the Islanders.

The Oilers fans were once again promised a world of movement, and the only movement that MacTavish gave them was a handful of awful draft pick trades that seen them miss sure-fire opportunities to draft actual decent players. Not only do the Oilers have no number one Goaltender (Dubnyk is NOT a number one), no number one defencemen, they didn't make any trades for ANY depth players who can contribute to the Oilers bottom six. The Oilers will now have to overpay for free-agent players to out-bid other teams in more desireable locations to fill these roles. This is absolutley un-acceptable on the part of the Oilers Management, but what can anyone possibly expect from someone like Craig MacTavish. When is this team going to learn that bringing back has-beens that MAY have been good players for your team once-upon-a-time doesn't mean they are good at anything else but that.

not bad but no1 wants to come here and no GM can make them expect maybe a GM with experience which they should have done and stuck Mact coaching a whole new team almost from 06, he was a good coach losing Pronger for almost nothing has and is still killing this organization plain and simple.

Not a bad blog with some good insight, I agree that the second round pick should have been kept and used on a goalie. MacT was right not to get in too deep on Schneider, Gillis would have demanded the farm from a division rival. I will say though but as a Canucks fan it is awfully difficult to take a diss from a guy who uses the wrong form of the word "there" while taking his shot!
