Captain Landeskog Gets 7-year Extension

The Avalanche invested further in their young captain by shelling out $39 million over the course of seven years.
Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic are trying to work with their current roster as no major moves were made in free agency to sign any available players. Other players were acquired through trades and picking up any free agents seems unlikely as the owners are choosing to use the budget to pay their young stars instead. This was proven by the large sum that Ryan O'Reilly was contracted and Matt Duchene's $6 million per year over five years.
All are young, competitive guys eager for the playoffs and eventually the Cup.
"I wanted a long-term deal. I want to stay in Denver. I want to win a Cup in Denver," said Landeskog.
It doesn't get any clearer than that; the lad is hungry for more than a few wins.
The Avs might make a few moves to boost the defense after foregoing Seth Jones at the draft and snatching Nathan MacKinnon, a center, in an attempt to increase goal-scoring.
Any defensive additions may as well happen through more trades, which might see the Avalanche giving up at least a forward and a defenseman, one of which may be a prospect.
Potential moves will be dictated by how well the camp goes and their initial performance early in the season.

These are all sordid deals for both sides, I must say. Coburn? The Avs need someone a little more leet than that.
Hunwick for Liles straight up is my dream trade. We get rid of Hunny, leafs can dump him in the minors as they have a dozen dman on one ways as it is, they save a roster space and cap space with moving Liles, and we get a decent pucking moving dman who can acutally run a power play.
