The Leafs finally win a game, an actual win…that’s if you think winning in a shootout should count that is. rnrnA boring hockey game, a boring result, but that’s exactly what the Devils do to you. The Leafs were outshot again and hemmed in their own zone for long periods of time and no this is not a recording its an actual fact and as Ovechkin would put it “I swear gah.” For as many times the Leafs have played some bad hockey they have come out on the winning end multiple times this season and for that I have no answer.rnrnThe game started off the way most other Leaf games have started and that’s with the Leafs looking sloppy and the other team looking like Team Iceland from D2: The Mighty Ducks. The Leafs got a break in the first when Tyler Bozak pounced on a loose puck in front of the net after a mad scramble beating Corey Schneider for his seventh goal of the season and his eighth point in his last seven games.rnrnAn early second period hooking penalty to Nikolai Kulemin who seems darn near invisible for most games leads to an equalizer from Adam Henrique for his 11th of the season. James Van Riemsdyk the guy the Leafs gave Luke Schenn scored his 17th of the season after he pounced on a rebound off the stick of Cody Franson to give the Leafs a 2-1 lead. That lead wouldn’t last long as 29 seconds later a bad pinch by Cody Franson would lead to a Ryan Clowe breakaway goal, his first of the season. The third period was just as boring as you would think with both teams not generating a whole lot of quality chances.rnrnAs overtime usually is, both teams exchanged chances and the game was played at a feverish pace. Morgan Rielly who my dad seems to think is “blind and needs glasses” and I don’t think that’s true, as he had a chance to end the game, but fired the puck wide.rnrnOnto the shootout and for some odd reason the Leafs are pretty good at this thing, either that or the other teams are just bad…like the Devils. James Van Riemsdyk skates down towards Schneider and uses his patented backhander to beat the American goalie. No one else would put the puck in the back of the net and the Leafs come away with another shootout win. The Leafs are now 8-4 in the shootout and the Devils are now well…….lets say pretty bad at 0-7.rnrnAnother game where the Leafs had to rely on their goaltending to bail them out. Bernier once again played stellar as he stopped 36 of 38 shots. James Van Riemsdyk was his impressive power forward self registering six shots and scoring in both regulation and the shootout. The Leafs sit outside the playoffs one point out and play a pivotal matchup against the division leading Bruins on Tuesday.
