Game day Preview:
Red Wings @ Flyers 1/28/14 RED WINGS (23-18-11) at FLYERS (25-22-6)

The Flyers have lost 4 straight, making it the worst losing streak since October. With The Stanley Cup Playoffs about 11 weeks away, and with the standings so closely bunched together in the Eastern Conference, each game seems like it will have serious postseason implications and the game vs the Red Wings will be no different. The Red Wings will be entering Tuesday nights game one point ahead of the Flyers in the race for the final wild-card spot in the East.

Within the next week and a half, the Flyers undoubtedly will play their toughest stretch of the season. After Detroit Tuesday night at home, they will be on the road against the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche. So obtaining points from the struggling Red Wings is crucial.

"The key to getting out of this is to have a good start the next game," says Wayne Simmonds. "We haven't been playing well as of late in all aspects of the game, offensively and especially defensively.

"We have to get a solid start to the next game. The practice [Sunday morning] helped. We went over systems more. Sometimes you don't get a lot of practice time; it kind of slips, which it shouldn't. We have to do a better job. That [lack of practice] is not the whole reason, but obviously guys have been saying we have to be more mentally prepared and ready. As individuals, come into the game and do our jobs, and we haven't been." continued Simmonds.

In injury related news, on Monday January 27th, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren announced that Zac Rinaldo, out since Jan. 9 with a high-ankle sprain, had his status upgraded to day to day, which is ahead of his original six-week recovery schedule. It should be noted that the Flyers are 2-5-2 without Rinaldo. Although he is not a point producer with just 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 44 games played, it's proven that he is missed on the energy line, and on the penalty kill (when not serving the penalty himself). Detrot Red Wings Goaltender & USA Olympian Jimmy Howard may be looking to make his return to the lineup as goaltender Petr Mrazek has been sent down to the American Hockey League. Jimmy Howard has been out with a knee injury.
