The Ducks finished off the month of February with a 1-0 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues in their 1st game since the Olympic break. Because of the Olympic break the Ducks played only 5 games and won 2 of them, this is the only month so far this season that the Ducks have finished with a record below .500.
The worst game for the Ducks in February was the 2-0 loss to the Dallas Stars. It was the 1st time all season that the Ducks high flying offense was shut out and the start of the Ducks 3 game losing streak this past month. It wasn't a terrible game by the Ducks but for most of the night they just weren't on their game and were not able to beat Stars goalie Dan Ellis.
The best game for the Ducks in February was their 5-2 win over Nashville. It ended their losing streak and sent the Ducks to the Olympics on a high note. It wasn't a perfect game, and the Ducks got a couple of lucky bounces that led to goals, but it was a great way to end the 60th game of the season for the Ducks.
The biggest surprise for the Ducks in February was how many times there were shut out. The Ducks offense has been one of the most potent in the league all season, but they were shut out twice in a 3 game span, and in their most recent win they only scored 1 goal. In the 5 games this month they scored 8 goals, with 5 of those coming in 1 game.
The biggest worry for the Ducks was their play on home ice. Going back to their final home game in January, the Ducks lost 4 games in a row at home. The Ducks have been almost unbeatable for most of this season when playing at the Pond, but they struggled in Anaheim in February. Hopefully those few games were just an aberration and the Ducks get back to dominating opponents at home as the season progresses and the playoffs begin.
Because of the Olympic break the Ducks played very few games in February, and that may end up being a blessing in disguise because of how much the Ducks struggled in those 5 games. The Ducks did end the month on a high note by shutting out the St. Louis Blues, one of the teams the Ducks are fighting with for the top seed in the Western Conference. Hopefully that win can help propel this team into a better stretch of games as March begins.
