So the Oilers have another top 10 pick in the entry draft so here are players that the Oilers should look at drafting that arent named Ekblad.
First Round
Sam Bennett C (6' 180) 57GP 36G 55A 118PIM OHL Ranked 1st N.A.S
Everyone is calling him a clone of Doug Gilmore (even Doug Gilmore thinks so), Killer was a top line forward for most of his career. He play like he was 6'6 230, finished his checks, worked the corners better then anyone during the 90's and had soft hand around the net. Also he dropped the mitts when it was needed.
From watching a small amount of Frontenac games and highlight this kid plays like he has gravel in his gut and spit in his eye. He finished his checks every shift, dropped his gloves when challenged or needed to defend himself, And knew his way around the net to the tune of 91 points in 57 games in the OHL this year
Bennett is the best overall tallent in the draft this year and if the Oilers have the chance to pick him at 3 they undoubtedly will. The Oilers need more top end depth at center behind RNH,Gagner,Arcobello,Gordan, Bennett would be a great upgrade over youngsters Lander and Horak.
Leon Draisaitl C (6'1 210) 64GP 38G 67A 24PIM WHL Ranked 4th N.A.S
Refereed to as the "German Gretzky" his vision of the ice is unmatched in the CHL almost Doug Weight-ish. A big body center that will only get bigger and who is defensively sound in his own end. Being from Regina Sask, I was able to watch Draisaiti in person a few time this year and he was by far the best player on the ice, physically dominating defenders down low and in the corners and using his soft hands to light up the score board.
Going into next season the Center depth goes as follows RNH,Gagner,Arcobello,Gordan,Lander,Horak Draisaiti would fit nicely into a set up role on the 2/3 line, and if he could develop his checking game he could be the total package.
Nick Ritchie RW (6'2 230) 61GP 39G 35A 136PIM OHL Ranked 7th N.A.S
Milan Lucic's lil brother (not really). He hits, fights and scores, a player like that is something the Oilers need BIG TIME! Ritchie uses his body to shield the puck, and work to the front of the net, but he also has skill to work the cycle and score off the rush. Jason Arnott was the last true power forward the Oilers had and he left in 98'.
In todays NHL you will not make it threw the playoff with out a true grit line and Nick Ritchie is sandpaper on skates. The Oilers will need another 4 guys like Ritchie/Lucic to challenge for a cup. Ranked at 7th overall the Oilers may swap first round picks to pick up a 2nd or 3erd round pick.
The Oilers should seriously think about trying to trade down with Anaheim. A 3erd Overall pick plus a few prospect for the Ducks 10th and 20+ overall pick
Pick 20+
Brendan Lemieux LW (6'2 190) 65GP 27G 26A 145PIM OHL Ranked 28th N.A.S.
He's Claude Lemieux's kid...enough said. You'll hate him until he is on your team. An agitator who can score, Big shot, big hits, sticks up for teammates. A do anything to win guy, might take things to far but its worth it in the end.
Pick 91
Adam Helewka LW (6'1 190) 62PG 23G 27A 32PIM WHL Ranked 77th N.A.S.]
Doubled point production in his second year in the WHL. Trending upwards, will have a chance to play top minuets next year. next year predictions 60GP 30G 40A
Pierre Engvall LW (6'4 190) 39GP 17G 18A 42PIM Swe U20 Ranked 91 E.S.
Big kid, drives to the net well, hard to contain, could be a Johan Frazen type of player. Will most like play in the Swedish Elite League for Troja/Ljungby next season
Milan Kolena D (5'9 180) 5GP 4G 4A 6PIM 2014 World Jr Ranked 59 E.S.
Offensive left hand shot defense. Would need time in AHL to learn the North American game
Pick 130-183
Rourke Chartier C (5'10 170) 72GP 24G 34A 8PIM WHL Ranked 136th N.A.S.
Good skater (speed, agility), Good play maker, Trending upwards. Almost doubled his production from first year in WHL. Very smart understands positioning and role. Played for Team Canada in this years Ivan Hlinka tournament.
Colton Bobyk D (6'2 190) 56GP 5G 7A 70PIM WHL Ranked 130th N.A.S.
Stay at home d-man. Fighter, solid checker, hard nosed sometimes crosses the line, plays with an edge. A future Willie Mitchell type
Ryan Mantha D (6'4 210) 29GP 1G 5A 51PIM USHL Ranked 149th N.A.S
NHL size and strength at only 17,makes strong break out passes. Needs to work on agility and physical play. Play for Team USA in the Ivan Hlinka tournament
Fabio Pfohl LW (6' 180) 23GP 8G 20A 20PIM German Jr Ranked 124th E.S.
Great passer, threads the needle. finds passing lanes, pure play maker
Chandler Yakimowicz RW (6'2 210) 33GP 3G 4A 45PIM WHL Ranked 153rd N.A.S.
Grinder. Pest. Scraper. Defensively responsible. Hard to play against.
Evan Anderson LW (6'2 190) 46GP 21G 31A 16PIM BCHL Ranked 179th
Pure sniper, more then doubled point production from last year. Committed to U of Michigan
