Greetings,
Habs vs Bruins
Anyone else love the Dryden to Price torch hand-off?
In the world of sports there are very few rivalries that sparks such intense emotions than Bruins vs Habs. Am I happy with the outcome? Yes. Am I happy with how the game went? Nope. But let's break that down, shall we?
I'm getting this out of the way right away. I didn't like the officiating. I know, every fan hates the officiating when something doesn't go their team's way, but this game wasn't the best result from the officiating crew. The 2nd goal by the bruins was a direct result from a bad icing call. I tried to replay it, but was that last goal the Bruins scored, was it offside? It looked that way to me, but again I didn't catch the replay. Otherwise they missed some pretty obvious penalties, and even I still don't get that final call. That call alone will have talk shows buzzing about how the Bruins were cheated... sheesh...
I didn't like the diving call on Subban. Marchand is a little dirty rat who seems to always get the benefit of the doubt. With the history the Bruins had for spearing players in the nuts last season, how is that still a 2 minute minor? Could someone please throw the book at them? Preferably in a place where the sun don't shine.
Okay so now that we've gotten that out of the way here's how I thought the night went down. They finally scored on the powerplay, so no more donuts on that board, but the penatlykill still let one in... so they didn't exactly win the battle of special teams. I don't like the fact they still play a dump and chase system so often, but I'm not the coach.
I like how Parenteau was paired up with Plekanec and Galchenyuk. The line created chances and we finally got to see Parenteau fully engaged in the play for a complete game. If these 3 play like that, the Habs have 2 lines that are true threats to score. But let's not forget the roles that Patches, Desharnais and Gallagher played in this game. They looked better than in any game this season so far.
Honorable mentions go out to Jiri Sekac on his first NHL goal! Let's hope this is a sign of great things to come for the youngster.
Here are the players I want to give a shout out to from tonight's game;
Carey Price - Sometimes holding them in there is all it takes. It wasn't pretty, but there were some flashes of brilliance in there.
Jarred Tinordi - He's starting to show why he was a 1st round draft pick. I do wish he would make a quicker outlet pass though.
Alexei Emelin - Exactly what the Habs needed tonight. Some big hits infused this group with confidence that they can go hit for hit with this Bruins squad. That hit on Lucic was a thing of beauty!
So far I've yet to see the Habs play a great game, but I'll take 8 of 10 points to start the year any day of the week. Next up is the Avalanche on Saturday. Hopefully the Habs will take advantage of the fact they don't have a number one goalie.
Final score 6-4 Habs win!

I agree about throwing the book on cheap plays. Spearing and cheapshots have no place in the game and the league should start imposing some extra discipline.
