Sam Reinheart was selected #1 overall in the 2014 NHL Draft this year, As the young man has given Buffalo some light headed into this early young NHL season entering November. Sam Reinheart has earned his first point in the NHL last night as the Buffalo Sabers beat the San Jose Sharks by a final score of 2-1. In his 9th game with the Sabers Sam finally found himself on the score sheet as Buffalo beat a very determined Sharks team. Even though Buffalo finds themselves in the bottom of barrel in the Atlantic division with 4 points. It seems Buffalo is finally starting to get themselves together in this early season. Although give the Sabers some credit they have built themselves up to help their rookies down in their AHL Club the Rochester Americans. Honestly in maybe a couple of years if they built these prospect's good they may be a serious contender in the playoffs. If you think about they have picked up some good prospects in the draft in last couple of years. For example, last year they picked up defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen who last year spent time in Buffalo and in Rochester. Rasmus had 2 goals and 2 assists for a total of 4 points in 34 games with the Sabers and he picked up 22 points last year in Rochester. Another good rookie for Buffalo that they picked up is Mikhail Grigorenko he spent the year with Buffalo, Rochester and spent time in QMJHL. Recorded 5 points with the Sabers, Had 4 points with the Americans also had 39 points with the Quebec Remparts. This year the 20 year old is starting the year in the AHL with the Rochester Americans. One prospect that Buffalo is looking at this year who is draft eligible is rookie 17 year old Connor McDavid as Connor in the past 3 seasons in the OHL as put up a combine total of 165 points. This guy could be what the Sabers need to be a serious playoff contender and finally get Buffalo back in the playoffs. Connor has put up some big numbers in the OHL. But the big question is can he contuine these numbers in the NHL and AHL Level. But if Buffalo ends up drafting him which route will they go? It looks like finally Buffalo is using the build their prospects right over the past two years or so. It's nice to see that the Sabers are using their rookies and their draft picks wisely.
