The Penguins got a solid victory against bitter rival Washington Wednesday night. They avoided being swept by the Capitals in their always-competitive season series. Chris Kunitz knocked home a Blake Comeau rebound with 13 minutes remaining in the third period to give the Pens their decisive fourth goal.
That score gave Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead. With about four minutes to go in the game, Alexander Ovechkin snapped home a power-play goal to cut the lead to one. Neither team would put another one on the board, and the Penguins took home the win.
Power plays were abundant, with each team getting six power-play chances. Both teams scored one goal, and Brandon Sutter scored a short-handed goal. 10 penalties were given in the second period alone, and one was given in the third period to a surprising candidate: Marc-Andre Fleury. The Penguins goalie was penalized for roughing after going at it in front of the net with Capitals forward Joel Ward. Ovechkin would score his goal seconds after.
Evgeni Malkin had three assists, Sidney Crosby scored his 20th goal, and Patric Hornqvist netted the first goal of the game. Hornqvist has now scored four goals in his last three games.
After not leading at all in the season series, Pittsburgh never trailed. The first goal from Hornqvist was huge for the Penguins, and Crosby was able to give them a 2-0 cushion later in the first period.
Fleury finished with 21 saves for the Pens, and Caps goaltender Braden Holtby stopped 22.
The Capitals visit Carolina to face the Hurricanes on Friday, and the Penguins head back home for a little break, as they don't play until Sunday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This currently might be the most entertaining rivalry in the league.
