Babcock Thoughts From a Leaf Fan

I’ve been back and forth on whether or not I think getting Babcock is a “Must” for the leafs. One thing is for sure and that is Toronto needs a complete make over in how desirable they are to free agents, coaches, scouts and anyone else in the industry. I think about teams like the Yankees in baseball, players want to go to New York because it comes with an air of respect and dignity from other players around the league as well as a chance every year to win. The Red Wings are held in that same light and why wouldn’t Dion be upset he didn’t get traded there, he might actually feel wanted and respected there. Red Wing Management is known to be committed to its players, it shows in how they develop their talent but this kind of respectability comes from the top of the ladder and I think Toronto has made that move with Shanahan. Shanny has been saying all the right things, (except the Kadri incident, I felt he should have stayed out of the media on that one) and seems committed to transforming the leafs from a dysfunctional family to a respectable organization.
So I say, no we don’t need Babcock, but just as McDavid is going to speed up the process in Edmonton, landing Babs would be comparable in helping the leafs in the transformation back to respectability. Even Delusional leaf fans can see that its going to be a couple years before any true progress is noticed and longer before we are competitive but if we can get Babcock it shows Toronto can be that place people want to go and maybe we can get some guys taking hometown discounts to win what will be an all time legendary cup when Toronto wins sometime in the next 10 years.
To finish this off, this is my offer to Babcock; 10 years, 50 million. Super easy when its not your money to spend but in reality its going to be 3 to 5 years before being competitive and then 5 years of being awesome to finish off his career. That would make Babcock 62 I believe when he would be looking to retire or move from the bench to a consultant position. No more coaching changes, go with a proven winner and stand behind him every step of the way. If we can’t land Babcock, I would go with a guy that wants to work with young talent, someone like Blashill or to be honest Steve Spott (which I don’t think got a very good hand dealt to him, he will be an NHL coach at some point)rnHope you enjoyed,rn
