Las Vegas' expansion team will be picking from the unprotected lists of each team. If precedent says anything, they'll also likely pick 1st overall in 2017.
Here's a rules refresher (courtesy of General Fanager):
- Teams can protect 7F, 3D and 1G, OR 8 Skaters and 1G
- Players with NMC must be protected.
- 1st and 2nd year professionals and unsigned picks are exempt from selection.
and a whole lot of stipulations for Las Vegas' new GM, with one big one:
- The Las Vegas franchise must select one player from each presently existing club for a total of 30 players
It's July 1st. We've just traded Hall and signed Lucic, and this list may be different by the day's end. But if I had to lock it in today, the Oilers will protect the following players from LV in an expansion draft:
RNH
Eberle
Drai
Lucic
Sekera
Larsson
Klefbom
Reinhart
Talbot
Notables available:
Pouliot
Yakupov
Khaira
Fayne
Davidson
Thoughts? It'll be interesting to see how this changes over the year.
2 things 1- las vegas gets the odds of the 3rd overall pick in the draft lottery2- oilers dont protect reinhart and do protect yak puoliot and one of the other 3 other then that good read
if the draft is done after the season mcdavid and nurse for example will be entering their third year.
mcdavid and nurse are both safe the rules have been put in place theres a tool on generalfanager
