June 30th, the day before free agency and my heart is beating to someone else's drum. That someone else being the Toronto Maple Leafs after I caught wind of their apparent "marketing offer" to Stammer by the good folks at MLSE and Canadian Tire.

A few hours later, Subban and Weber swap jersey's, Hall is traded for Larsson and Stamkos accepted the lightnings offer. What? Wait a minute...you're telling me that I as a Leaf fan don't have to deal with PK Subban in my division any more. Thank the maker!

Wait, this has to be a dream. Well, it wasn't and I thank the hockey gods for every single bit of it, but I can thank no one more than Steven Stamkos himself.

The man took an $8.5 million per year offer to stay with a powerhouse team when he could have strapped the Leafs or any other organization for that matter for the next seven years for at least $10 million per year.

This is where I thank Steven the most. By staying in Tampa, he has helped the Maple Leafs in the years to come. All that money that would have been spent on one player, can now be distributed exactly where it needs to be, with it's home grown talent in Mitch Marner, William Nylander and the newly drafted Auston Matthews, Toronto's future M N' M line (you saw it here first folks).

These three budding young talents will be a force for the Toronto Maple Leafs for years to come and being fiscally strapped to one player in the form of Stamkos would have limited the chances of successfully signing all three long term in the next few seasons.

Now with SS safety back in the hands of the Lightning, Toronto can continue to concentrate on it's rebuild according to the Shannaplan and not have to rely on the free agent talent like Maple Leafs teams of old.

Thanks for reading. Cheers!

This is the same guy that was telling everyone that SS was going to be a leaf and he was so excited. Haha, nice flip flop.

Agree with not signing stamps. But confused. Your happy subban is out of our division? Weber is way tougher to play against. Ask 165lb Marner who he would rather go into the corner with.
