The Islanders were defeated by the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon and they knew heading into Sunday that they needed to beat the Colorado Avalanche. JF Berube would start Sunday, as Thomas Greiss started Saturday. Joe Colborne, they former Flame got the ice-breaker in the first period giving the Avalanche a 1-0 lead and it looked like another blood bath for Berube, similar to his performance versus the Carolina Hurricanes. The Islanders battled back as the teams hottest player, Nick Leddy got the equalizer to end the first period tied 1-1. Not a good period for the Islanders versus the worst team in the NHL. The Islanders got a break and never looked back, the Isles had a 5-on-3 PP for 23 seconds they wasted no time as Tavares dished a beautiful pass to Ryan Strome to put the Isles up 2-1 and from that point on it was all Isles. It was 2-1 NY to start the third and Anders Lee scored twice, once from a nifty move-and-pass from Tavares and another from Johnny Boychuk and Lee regained the team scoring leader with 21 goals, ahead of Tavares by 1 goal. Jason Chimera wanted to join the party as he chipped a puck in past Pickard to give the Isles a 5-1 lead.

JF Berube back stopped the team saving 26 of 27 Avalanche shots and Leddy reached 200 NHL points.

The Isles sit 1 point out of the final wild card spot behind the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Isles play the Leafs on Tuesday
