The Toronto Maple Leafs season got off to a dream start on Wednesday evening as they demolished the Jets by a score of 7-2. This was a thrilling game to watch and a satisfying way to kick off the NHL season (unless you're a Jets fan). The game started with an early onslaught from Winnipeg as they were gifted 3 powerplays in the early going thanks to a slow start from the Buds and a wardrobe/brain malfunction from veteran Leo Komarov. Freddy Andersen kept the Leafs in a scoreless tie with a superhuman effort in goal, turning away several missiles from The Jets' snipers. Midway through the 1st, Toronto got their turn on the powerplay and their potent first unit converted with Kadri converting on some quick puck movement. Within minutes they tripled that lead with JVR snapping one home off a faceoff and Nylander flipping it into an empty net off a deft feed from Jake Gardiner. Nightmares of last year's season opener were expelled in the 2nd as the Leafs kept the home team off the score sheet and extended their lead with Marleau potting his first of two on the night. A mostly redundant third period saw the Leafs open up a 6-0 lead before a couple of late tallies from the home side rendered a 7-2 finalRandom Thoughts- Spectacular performance from Fredrik Andersen, all kinds of ten-bell stops in the first period and solid throughout the game-Nighmare start for the Jets, especially Steve Mason. I think they have a good, fast team but without goaltending its very tough to make the playoffs- 3 points for Auston Matthews, so much for the sophomore slump. Not a dominant night for him, but nice to get off to a quick start- A lot of trips to the penalty box, especially for the Leafs. It's the first game so players may just be adjusting to the new rules, shaking the rust off etc. Thanks for reading
