Hello,
ever play that game where someone is reading their fortune from a fortune cookie and you just have to blurt out the words "in bed" at the end.
Well, playoff rhetoric and the Toronto Maple Leafs have a similar two word phrase that should dove tail every headline out there set to spark readership, subscriptions, and clicks. Those two words are "For Now".

There are a ton of articles singing the praises of the Leafs and their 5 zip performance and it all gave me pause. I was pushed to write this article after noticing one headline on NHL.com in particular, and this comes with no disrespect to the author Mike Zeisberger, but our magic words were locked and loaded as I read the headline to myself. It read "Matthews, Marner shake postseason slumps"

"... For Now" was so tempting to say after those words.

I agree with Eklund's belief that in hockey "the team that needs to win usually always wins". The Leafs needed to win that first game and handedly. The youth needed a confidence boost. But unfortunately that means the expectations come with it. Of course, who wouldn't want to see the Leafs sweep the 2 time Stanley Cup Champs, it makes for a great story.

And fortunately for hockey writers, at the moment they can give a big bump to the confidence of the casual fan and wave the blue and white flag... for now. But historically when there is a blow out in the playoffs that means the rest of the series is tight checking affair and usually ends, sadly for the Leafs, in 1 goal deciding games most often in the other teams favor.

So my call to action here is to be cautious casual fans to jump on the Leafs bandwagon so quickly. Look around the league there are plenty of good stories out there. Ville Husso and the St. Louis Blues also had a shut out last night against Minnesota. It was quite the flex by the 2019 Stanley Cup Champs.

I am also asking folks to take these articles coming out right now with a couple grains of salt and maybe just think to yourself as you are reading them "... For Now".

Now, I don't want to seem like I am anti-success or Leaf bashing. But, I just want to point out that there is a psychological aspect to the playoffs and that with every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So I'd watch out for the Lightning in game 2. A lot of things break under pressure and time and the Leafs have a lot of pressure right now.

So I predict a 2-1 victory by the Lightning in game 2.

Who gets the loan Leaf goal you may ask... Wayne Simmons.
