First Blog - Why Hockey?

Hey all, thanks for checkin out my first blog.
My topic of interest today is "Why Hockey?":
What is it about sports that makes people become so passionate. More specifically, what is it about hockey that brings together so many people while uniting around one team, and divides so many others while competing against another? What makes hockey so much different from other sports that it is embraced as Canada's game? Are Canadians of a different breed than Americas, or other nationalities? That's an argument for another day. How is it that 12 angry men with no teeth skating on frozen water can be such a beautiful thing?
Following are a list of reasons why I love hockey, and how those reasons compare to other sports:
- Faced paced, uninterupted action - more than you can say about baseball
- Hard hitting - rarely ever see a catcher/runner collision in baseball, in basketball a slap on the wrist is a foul
- A goal is exciting - as opposed to basketball and the constant scoring
- Beautiful set ups - I guess every team sport has this in some way
- Great goalie stops - soccer is the only sport to come close to this, and its not exactly a common occurance in soccer
- Its played for the love of the game - although I'm sure many players in other sports follow this creed, a comparison between hockey contracts and football/basketball/baseball contracts shows that hockey players put them selves through one of the toughest sports to play for a lot less money than some other guys (of course every rule has its excption, i.e. guys like Yashin)
So all in all every sport has something that makes it exciting, but no sport (in my opinion) has as many of them together as hockey does. Which truly does make it the most exciting sport to watch, to play, to read about, to talk about and to live with.

Nice first blog! I absolutely agree with you that Hockey by far the best/most exciting sport to watch and it also has the most quality people as it's players. Keep up the good work on the blogs!
