Ok that was sarcasm. Every year, I think I forget just how good playoff hockey is. The playoffs are only one day old, and we've already seen a double OT game, followed up by a Quadruple OT game. (I started writing this blog during the second OT assuming the game would end soon.)
We watched San Jose lose last years leading goal scorer, and then lose a 2 goal lead in the third period. Only to come back, and grab a win in overtime.
Ottawa comes out and dominates Pittsburgh early on, but the Pens show some grit at the end of the game. It almost ensures you'll see another fast, hard hitting, high scoring game number 2.
Anaheim surprises everyone and starts Bryzgalov in net. And he doesn't disappoint leading the, formerly "Mighty", Ducks to a hard fought 2-1 victory. But the goalie of the game wasn't Ilya, it was Minnesota's Backstrom who kept the Wild in the game, making 32 saves.
Vancouver vs Dallas was suppose to be low scoring defensive battle, instead each goalie looked shaky in the first 3 periods, giving up 8 goals combined. That all turned around in the next 3 periods, when they start playing like the Allstars they are. Vancouver killed off a 5-3 in the second OT, and then scored the winner with just minutes remaining in the 4th OT.
It leads to some great questions for Game number 2:
Will Cheechoo be able to play?
Will Hartnell be suspended?
Can Sid the Kid turn his play up another notch, and lead his team to a victory?
Will Ottawa continue to hit everything in sight?
Who starts for Anaheim?
Can Backstrom steal a game for the Wild?
Can Dallas rebound after a tough OT loss?
Will Vancouver pay someone to pick up Brent Sopel’s crackers, so he doesn’t hurt his back again?
Will Lanny’s Moustache be fired when he falls asleep at work today?
To answer your questions (in order):NoNoYes. Question is how many victories.Definitely.Bryzgalov after winning.I would say yes. With a GAA of under 2 he has that ability.I don't think so. Turco's confidence is shot (again)Yes. Get Sabourin to do it cuz he won't be seeing the ice anytime soon. That depends on if your boss is a hockey fan or not :P
