Now that The Kings have released Dan Cloutier (thank GOD). The Kings have limited the goalie problems to just a few. This preseason Labarbra has not proven yet to be a #1. Aubin is a clear backup. Bernier has proven that he is good. The only problem is his age.
As I see it. Labarbra will be used in a trade with a Kings prospect to get Gerber from Ottawa. I know the Kings won't give up too much and Labarbra will be a great backup for Emery. If that happens Im in the wrong business. Aubin could back up Gerber and the Kings could get through the season with a somewhat solid #1 netminder.
Also what could happen is the Kings could keep Bernier as the #1(Tough call for a 19 yr old) and trade Labarbra for another forward. He has played great this preseason.
Labarbra is a solid goaltender....He might just be the Kings #1 this year. The goals he has given up this preseason are not soft goals.
Let me Know what you all are thinking....
Thanks
What I am thinking is the Kings made a mistake by not brining in a vet to back up Labarbra, and Bringing Bernier in this early, would be another mistake. Labarbra I think will be fine, I just think the KIngs should tried a little harder for another goalie.Flamestr
Yes, take Gerber from the Sens! :D
I think the plan was to give Cloutier a chance. I doubt anyone truly expected Bernier to outplay him. How bad is it really? I haven't seen Cloutier play in a long time but he was always a Marc Crawford favorite. Nothing wrong with waiting a month and giving Bernier his 9 games or whatever before sending him back to junior.
Gerber is as good as gone then:D hah!
I think the Sens would take Labarbera straight up for Gerber given the money they would save. Makes sense for both teams. Too bad things didn't work out for Cloutier. Maybe he can find his game in the AHL and get another chance later.
Keep in mind, Ottawa will want to hold on to Gerber until Emery's proven his wrist has fully healed and they know they can find a capable back-up.
I think that LA acquiring Gerber is a win-win solution for both teams. I doubt the Senators would want much in return (or maybe they would considering his recent win streak), but more likely a draft pick or a prospect (I hope it's Marc-Andre Cliche!)
