I missed week 2, so this one will cover the past 2 weeks.
HERO: Martin Biron
Posting 4 wins (2 of them shutouts) in 4 games, Biron was an easy choice here. Stopping 140 of 143 shots during the 4 game stretch, the Flyers are making some big time noise in the Eastern Conference, with Biron providing A+ goaltending to aid the cause. He is leading the league with 6 wins, and is in second with a .952 save percentage and third with a 1.57 GAA.
Close second: Henrik Zetterberg with 5 goals and 4 assists in the past 5 games.
ZERO: Chris Mason
Now this isn't completely Mason's fault, more so that of the entire Nashville Predators team, but the goalies always get blamed, don't they? With 5 straight losses in the past two weeks (6 straight total) and 20 goals against in those 5 games (24 in all 6), Mason is not exactly living up to the standard set by Tomas Vokoun during his times in Nashville. Mason was given the chance to take over an NHL starting role, and has not lived up to the task as of yet. I hope to see him turn it around and play like he did when called upon last season.
Close second: The NY Rangers offense, where did all the goals go?
um, what about the Leafs defence for zero?
I was definitely thinking about the Leafs defense as the Zero, but they could be the zero every week it seems. I think it is just assumed that they are always a contender, and for my zero's I am going with guys who have much higher expectations that what they achieve. Having low expectations and meeting them does not qualify as a zero in my mind.
I agree with you, but I don't think having $21 million tied up in defencemen means that you have low expectations for them.
