Remembrance Day just passed up here in Canada and with American Thanksgiving on the way, it made me start thinking of reasons why I am thankful at this time of year, some of which I'd like to share with you all below.
*I am sooooooo thankful of the people who have answered our country's call, both in the past and now, who and continue to defend the lifestyle we lead and the freedoms we have - can't say thank you enough, nor acknowledge them often enough for the fact that they willingly put themselves on the line for our country.
*I am thankful for all my friends and family who make life worthwhile and interesting - we, like all families, argue & disagree from time to time but the love that's there is the important thing and I'm blessed to have them all around me.
*I am thankful to live in Canada, specifically one of the best cities in the country, Calgary, where the economy is alive and while it's bursting at the seams in some ways, still feels a bit like a small town with a fairly neighbourly sentiment to it.
*I am thankful to have the opportunity to enjoy, locally, a team and a game that has been a part of my life since I was a little girl watching my brother play the game (and playing briefly myself). I am thankful of this most especially because of the caliber of men & women who play this game - most of whom I would be happy to point out to my (future) children as role models in what hard work can do for you.
*I am thankful that the NHL in Canada is lively right now and as the country's #1 sport, covered as much as I could want. I'm glad for the high Cdn $ that allows for the keeping of important players and the chance for our teams to make money and avoid having to re-locate south of the border.
*I am thankful for sites like this one where I can feed my never-ending desire to learn what is happening in/around the game I love & where I can meet people who share the same passion I do. Hockey fans are always friends whether you meet them at the rink or online - it's a fraternity that I cherish as we all know what we share and enjoy despite the public mockery by those who don't take the time to learn and love the game like we do.
*I am really thankful that it is only the quarter-pole of the season....while my team has looked less than prepared to this point, at least they have another 60+ games left!
Cheers all - happy Turkey day to my friends to the south!
