Now that's the way a Hockey Game should be televised!

Last night I was spending one of my usual nights watching Center Ice coverage
on Direct TV. I started with the Vs. game with St. Louis and Detroit.
It was a pretty good game and the coverage was very good..
Then I started switching between that and the Toronto and Canadian game.
I began noticing the difference with camera angles and number of cameras
replays, etc. The announcers were great and the intermission comments
between periods were outstanding. This went on into the remaining games to be played last night on Center IcE.
Ok, now I'll get to the main point of my thoughts. I live on the west coast
and I was going to watch the freeway freeze series game between the Kings and world champion Ducks!
Fox network just happened to televise on both channels here in So Cal. Prime Ticket and FSW . If you have center ice you were able to see both of these channels outside of the Los Angeles area. On the Kings side of the coverage
on FSW they showed the whole game from what they called the ringside coverage
which showed the whole game as if you were on the ICE.
Man was this great. They had no announcers so it was just as if you were at the game with seats on the ice. They also had the arena background sounds.
That was the first time I had ever really been watching the game from at home and had the aspect of actually being there , live, in the front row.
I couldn't take my eyes off the game. There weren't the shots from midway
in the crowd or any other shots making it hard to follow the game. Instead I only saw the hits and plays just as if I was right in the middle of the game.
It was unbelievable. I only wish they would do this every time for every game.
I hate to say this but I didn't miss the announcers or the frequent comments
about what the Kings have to do or why this play was good or bad.
I just watched and made up my own experience of what I was was feeling and seeing. They did however have 2 commentators take us between timeouts not to commercials but to where the lockers rooms were. They also showed how the sticks were fixed in between periods and how the skates were repaired during a game. Then they took us into the video room and where the organist played and all the digital monitors and electronic consoles that made the Honda Center tick.
It was truly a remarkable experience for those who have never seen this before.
I have been in the music recording industry for many years and have seen this first hand but I am sure it was as interesting for you and it was for me.
But the main thing I saw in this type of coverage. is that many non hockeys fans would get hockey, and love it as we all do.

I caught the end of the first period on. It was a pretty cool broadcast. I'm not really a fan of either the Kings' or Ducks' announcers and didn't miss them a bit, but, they did give a nice tour around the building during the breaks.
