Many Islanders fans are calling for a blockbuster trade where the Isles would land themselves a top line scorer (such as Martin St. Louis, Patrick Marleau, etc.). Not that I would say know to getting a guy like St. Louis, but there is another dilemma that comes up.

Who gets demoted?

Mike Comrie and Josef Vasicek are our #1 and #2 centers. Despite all the grumbling that Comrie does not belong in the #1 spot, I would have a big problem with moving either into the #4 slot (as #3 does, 100%, belongs to Mike Sillinger).

Ruslan Fedotenko has played with a certain grit, character, and toughness... I would be thoroughly disappointed with him moving down past the second line as well.

He hasn't scored a point in over a month, but our captain Bill Guerin deserves to be up there in the top two as well.

Al Arbour Night savior Miroslav Satan's skill earns him a spot in the top six forwards as well.

Right there is 5/6 of our top two lines. Bill Guerin is the only I'd consider putting on the third, defensive line, as the rest are more offensive minded.

After that, we have Jeff Tambellini and Sean Bergenheim left. Both offensive players with speed and skill as well as youth. Some have a love affair with Tambellini and others already label him a bust given his inability to stick with the NHL club. I am somewhere in between, given that he hasn't proved anything yet but also has never been given a regular top two line chance either. Bergenheim has been playing with a lot of jump lately, just as he was early in the year. I wish both could get on the second line, but for now only one will have to do.

Lets say hypothetically we add a Martin St. Louis or a Patrick Marleau. Ignoring the speculation of who would be going the other way in a trade, who moves down??

Perhaps we have two second lines, but I don't feel they are 4th liners either.
