New York Islanders Jersey Concept

It wasn't long ago when this attachment was thrown my way:
My reaction was... well... YUCK!
Before believing that Charles Wang had this baby lined up as the next jersey of the New York Islanders when the league-wide "tight fit" jerseys come into play next season I gave it some thought. The #79 right there was my hint that this may have a previous concept jersey but shoved aside. Had it been a serious current contender, I doubt they would've had them made with Alexei Yashin's name and number.
Anyway, that image got me thinking. If I could design the next Islanders' jersey... what would it look like? I cracked open Photoshop and gave it a shot. I know it's low quality and choppy, but you get the overall idea.

I know many Isles fans will be unhappy with my logo from the Fishstick Era. I've always liked the Lighthouse logo and I modernized it's colors a bit to fit the team now more.

Have you lost your mind?!?!?! The best thing about the Islanders logo is that it has a picture of MY HOME on the front. We've gone through the fiasco of messing with tradition once, I pray that we're not going to do it again. That would be a colossal mistake. P.S.I'm hearing that the new jersey's will have the numbers on the front ala the photo you've shown us. I just hope those are not them. Solid, simple color schemes are better (i.e. the 1972 throwbacks worn this past year.)
The Isles have a classic jersey. If they didn't win 4 cups back in the day i'd say whatever. You guys have a rich tradition like us in Edmonton, so why mess with it? I think the best way to sell a team is by having a winning product on the ice.
Jeeze...why? Why? WHY!?!?! If they use this color scheme, then so be it (it's just the 3rd Jersey style), but, please, don't ever bring anything from the Stan Fischler look into the conversation again.Ugh, I just threw up in my mouth a little...

good god no! they already made the mistake of changing logos once, it had better not happen again. i think this blog should be deleted, for i fear it will give Charles a berry berry bad idea.
I fixed the double post ;)I knew I would get this reaction - which I'm okay with. The problem I have with the current jerseys is that it's the team sticking those 1980 Islanders down our throats again like the videos and Bossy's Blog, and everything else Wang does in an attempt to keep us happy.Yes, we have a rich tradition. But that was the past. We need to move on from those teams (but not forget ;)) into a new era. I once saw a completely different Islanders Lighthouse Logo (which was never used and looks nothing like the Fishstick Era) which would make you guys a lot happier. Unfortunately I can't find it on Google Images anymore :(
I'm never a fan of change for the sake of change. The leafs haven't won a cup since '67, so should they change their classic logo? No! I love the story behind the creation of our logo, and again I love the fact that the logo has a picture of my home on it. I'm a Mets fan, but they are a city team. I'm a Giants fan, but they play in New Jersey! The Isles are the only team that truly represents my home, and my family and friends. I would be extremely upset if they were to try and banish that logo again (although I must commend you on your bravery for the suggestion.)
No way, no how, one million times no. There should never, ever, ever be a different logo on the jersey than the original. Ever. You've just brought back the migraines from the fishsticks days. I hope you're happy :)
DDD - Does the Lighthouse not represent Long Island? Ahh, oh well. I tried.
I'm a diehard Islander fan and of course I hated the "fishstick" era. But, this concept you've shown is exactly what I've been saying for a couple years now. I love the lighthouse logo (as a 3rd jersey, of course). The only thing I would add is that I would put the number on the chest also like the picture at the top of the post. It would be a sweeetttttt 3rd jersey. I'd actually go out and buy one. With Geurin on it of course......great pick up Snow.
I like the Lighthouse logo a lot and I think it would be GREAT for a 3rd jersey- it is VERY Long Island. :)

No way do we change the original logo,the color scheme is allright but the logo is what defines a team and it's legacy. You do not see teams like the Habs, Red Wings, Yankees, Packers changing logo's
